just picked up a 1995-excited!
« on: May 26, 2014, 11:40:52 AM »
Looking forward to this guitar more than I have most.
http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=342837

Been missing the Taylor feel, never had one older than a 2006, so this has a lot of features I've wanted to see/experience(pinless bridge, standard scale on a GC size body). And I've been looking for a nice playing/sounding guitar to carry around and not be so concerned about.

Jim told me neck set is spot on. What type of finish were on these year makes?

Do you think it will have a tan line if I remove the pickguard(lol)

Oooh, that's very cool, Daryl!  I've always liked pinless bridges, and that top has aged beautifully!  Not to mention I personally prefer mahog over ovangkol.  I bet its tone has really matured, and wouldn't be at all surprised if its voice defies its smaller size (as that has been my experience).  Do tell when it arrives!  Congrats! :D

Lokks real nice Daryl.  Uhmm… do you think it has opened up yet, ha, my guess is it sounds nice and mature.  Concerning the tan line:  well yes just maybe. ;D :D :o

Nice-looking guitar. I believe the 1994 to 1997 Taylor's represent their golden era.  I happen to own three from that era. I've also owned more recent one. I know that the bracing was different for those years. It was moved forward in more recent times.

I'd love to get a Taylor from that era, but I just can't justify getting another guitar right now.  Hope you enjoy!

That is one pretty guitar! It has aged well and should produce a defined tan line for sure!
I'm interested to hear what you think of the sound once you've had time to play it a bit.
Also your impressions on the pinless bridge.
Congrats!!

I've heard those 90's models sound nicer than newer ones, what's your opinion so far?

just got it today, in much nicer condition than I anticipated. tone is very nice, louder than I thought it would be and I like the standard scale neck more than shortscale-neck profile is excellent-feels kinda different than the current models(possibly thinner in depth?), but at the same time its a very familiar feel-if that makes sense.

I removed some relief(was .008" and I took it down to .005", and I may drop it more in a few days). did some very slight nut slot depth adjustment and it plays like a dream. neck set is spot on.

this is the first non pin bridge I have owned-its kinda cool, but I like bridge pins, like how they look. grover tuners work smooth. I like the thinner body.

all in all I'm very impressed. the taylor quality is very present.

I plan to do a photoshoot review of it in a couple days.

Schweeet! Nice find. Glad to hear you are liking it. I've never experienced an early Taylor. Still got the ringing trebles?

Look forward to your pics.
