Spring and Fall limited series
« on: May 07, 2014, 04:18:26 PM »
I am new to the Taylor owners family and to being obsessed with their guitars. Does Taylor do these every year and when are they typically announced? ( I'm hoping for something more specific than  "fall" and "spring" :))
Thanks
Steve

As near as I can tell, the Spring and Fall Limiteds are an annual issue.  But some are more unusual than others.  For example, the 2013 Spring Limiteds had some really 'off-menu' woods for the bodies (Granadillo and African Ebony), but sometimes it winds up being little more than a cosmetic upgrade (e.g.,  the 2014 Spring Limited 400's).

If memory serves me correctly, the Spring Limiteds are announced in the February/March timeframe; Fall Limiteds are announced September-ish...

the first "official" spring LTDs i can remember were
the 08 41X/42Xce tasmanian blackwood models
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jsq98_tpxGI

there were summer 6/7XX SPEC LTDs in 03, along with NAMM & artist
commemoratives & the first run of 210/4ce Koa models were considered
winter LTDs, but were not designated on the soundhole labels as "WLTD"

end of the first quarter for spring LTDs & end of the third quarter for fall -
i'm surprised there hasn't been an announcement yet for XL/L40/40th, 20th X14
or 30th X12 commemorative models, as this year marks a bunch of anniversaries :-\

I am expecting something big for the Fall limiteds this year.   It is the 40th anniversary and they did not do anything spectacular for the spring limiteds, so I think something special may be in hand for this Fall.  I can't wait.

Spring LTD's are usually announced at the winter Anaheim NAMM show in late January, with that issue Wood & Steel coming out about two months later, so March-ish.  Fall LTD's also usually line up with the smaller summer NAMM show in Nashville in September (?), and the corresponding fall issue of W&S.  The actual guitars hit dealers another 1-3 months later still.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

I'm with you there, Michael. I've been postponing this year's BTO plans in anticipation of that announcement!

great idea. what are you planning for your BTO? or better yet what are you hoping for wood combination/ body size?

Body size would be a GA...I'm thinking of either Adi spruce/ebony or cedar/rosewood (sort of a 914 without all the shell bling). It is also the GA's 20th anniversary, so I'd like to see Taylor do something special with the wood selection and perhaps the AP bracing on the new 800s....no cutaway.
