Replace Nut & Bridge?
« on: May 01, 2014, 04:07:44 PM »
Hello All,

Just loving this new GS6...fun and sooo.. playable

All my other guitars just happen to have bone nut/saddles, can anyone describe to me how that would change the tone of my GS6 vs the Tusq

And has anyone performed a nutectomy  on their Taylor? ???

All the best...

I have a martin with bone and have had several taylors with tusq.  I've never actually converted a tusq guitar to bone, though.  But from what I've heard, bone is a bit warmer than tusq and may throw a little more bass.  Also I've heard it increases sustain.  I could be wrong about all of this.  Or not.

The problem with bone, from what I understand, is that it can be inconsistent from one nut/saddle to another. Some people have swapped out their Tusq for bone and really liked the difference; others have swapped out only to put the Tusq back on. Nut/saddle material is like strings and picks: if you're looking for a different sound you just have to experiment yourself and see what happens. There are so many different views between guitar players, and none of us can say what would be best for you. What I may think is a great sound, you may think "Ugh!"
