String help/advice...
« on: April 29, 2014, 01:33:09 AM »
After a long weekend of jamming, I decided it was time for my first string change on my new 316ce (came with mediums, but you probably already knew that). Been itching to try Elixir PB medium lights, so I strung it up and was surprised to see that my action actually seemed higher. This seems backwards to me. Am I crazy?

you hang out in your bathroom playing a guitar designed for people like Froto and Samwise..... you're asking us if your crazy ?  :o :o
i wouldn't think that such a minor change in string gauge/tension woud effect the neck relief that much. i do know that my GS' sound like poop( which is fine if your hanging out in the bathroom a lot) with anything but mediums.

The first time I replaced my 316 strings I switched from Mediums to Medium-Lights as well, basically because those were the strings I already had on hand. I can't tell you much about the action. Frankly I didn't notice. But the sound was good. I have mediums on now (because I won them...man I hate buying strings) and I do notice it booms a bit more, but the tone with both strings was good.
