New GS6 Christmas in April...
« on: April 15, 2014, 04:13:22 PM »
My first maple guitar and my first GS, I am very impressed with the fit and finish, new old stock with the 3 piece back, wow, she is a beauty.  My ear is still getting used to the tone, different from both my IRW and Hog, no better or worse just different.  Quite loud and the sustain is just incredible, to my surprise she reacts to soft finger picking very well.  I'll switch out the srings to Elixer P/B's this weekend as suggested by Edward and see how she sounds.  I have the Tone-Rite working her when not played, I find it opens up the top a bit.  If I can figure it our I'll post some pics...................bill   ;D

Congrats on your GS . I too have a NOS 3 piece back maple-bodied Taylor. 80/20's are more go-with-the-flow, PB's might slightly temper the innate brightness.

Congrats, Bill!  The big-bodied GS and Jumbo (now a GO), and DN as well, are the perfect pairing with maple, IMHO.  Together there is such a big, focused "percussive" quality to the low notes, along with very present mids and highs that seem inherent to maple (at least to every maple I own).  It really is a different voice from IRW and Mahog.  So glad you now have a new flavor to enjoy!

Yes Edward

I'm still in the bonding stage but really like the tone. And it works great for certain folk songs I play regularly. I appreciate your advise. My first guitar was a 312 and had T5 and 814ce then moved to  Martin D18 and a Collings OM2 and others. I forgot how playable and solid Taylor's were but I'm back.

Thanks again

Congrats! Hardly ever hear of someone purchasing a big-bodied maple Taylor, so very curious.

congrats Lefty !  my 616ce is my second most grabbed guitar. the size really tames some of the brightness.
