It's for my one of my daughters ...no, really!
« on: April 15, 2014, 12:01:26 PM »
Gone and done it ...quasi-impluse buy!  I've been teaching the teen bass for maybe a year now and she's been trying to pick up some guitar along the way; and recently she's been making noise about wanting her own guit (not like the old man doesn't have stuff on the wall she can use, sheesh ;) ).  So I ran into a used GSm at a really good price yesterday (and a beautiful spruce top, one of the nicest I've ever seen on these minis!) ...hmmm, minty, gorgeous wood, great price to my door ....ackkkkh, pulled the trigger!!!  Ok, so being the dad that I am, I asked her to kick in some dough to test how serious she was about this, and she consented.  So there's my justification ...it really is not because I wanted one in the stable.  I'm saying this aloud so I can hear myself ...you all hear me, right?  It's her guitar, ok!  Phwew ...now that that's cleared up!
:D

Congrats to your DAUGHTER on the new mini!

Hopefully she has many hours of enjoyment leaning and playing by your side.

Congratulations to both of you.  I love the GS mini, and plan to give one to my granddaughter some day soon.

Nice!   :)  I'm sure she will enjoy the heck out of having her own guitar, and the GSmini is a delight.  Being a Dad (my little girl is 41), I also appreciate your desire to see her willingness to contribute to the investment.  Just a thought: you might take what she put in and use it as a fund for her, for new strings, strap, etc.  Win-win.

Best wishes,
Jim

Cool for you and your daughter. Hope you both enjoy the new GS Mini. It amazes me just how well Taylor has done with those little gems.

Thanks, all!  It really is a joy beyond words to have the kids learning music and joining in on the fray!  Another one of my girls has been playing piano for years, and I'm currently working on a percussionist ;)  :D :D :D

Daughter: "Dad?" "When can I play MY guitar?"
Dad: "This B string is acting up so I'm fixing it for you...be patient..."

LOL!

This is awesome news! I'm sure the GSm will fit right into the family.
Congrats!

Nearly every time I hold a GS Mini I think that every kid who wants to learn guitar should start with a GS Mini.  Lightweight, very easy to play, and great tone would keep the kid who is truly interested coming back time and time again.  Its size and features eliminate so many barriers to learning that it is clearly a great choice for the budding guitarist.  Wish I had one when I was your daughter's age!

Hmmmm thinks!  Clever way of getting another guitar; tell my daughter its for her and get her to subsidize it? it could work  ;D ;D ;D

Update:  A good try, but no banana. She didn't want a guitar, however I am now subsidizing her new camera  ::) You win some, you lose some  ;D

Although not as effective you still have a chance here.  Now if you would have surprised her with a new guitar and she turned it down, well then….. ;D

Thanks, all!  It really is a joy beyond words to have the kids learning music and joining in on the fray!

True, true ... 3 sons here ... the 2 oldest began to get interested in guitar when they hit their teens and suddenly the only 2 acoustics I had left at the time became theirs ... I was happy to pass them on and then use this as "permission" to get my first Taylor!   8)

Now the oldest 2 are in their 20's and we get together every so often to jam on various stringed instruments ... the youngest is concentrating on and doing well with piano right now but he says guitar is next ...

Congrats on the new GSMini and the joy that will certainly come with it ...
