2013 414CE FLTD
« on: March 26, 2014, 10:55:23 AM »
Just bought a new 414ce fltd rosewood ceder. Trying to find the best strings
Have d aderio's lite now but sounds kinda stringy. If ya know what I mean. New bone nut and saddle
want it to be a litte more chimey. the elixers are not my favorite either. My ga3 loves d'aderio's
Just lookin for some feed back from some 714 or 414 ltd owners

thanks in advance
Burl

I think if what you're trying to do is slightly attenuate some of the sparkle and goose the bottom end, try a set of DR Rare mediums.  Note that their mediums are the same as everyone else's lights, except that the low E string is slightly fatter.

Another vote for DR Rares - my 814 loves them.

Hi Burl,

First off, welcome aboard!  And also congrats!

OK, big-time lover of cedar/rw here.  You mentioned not liking elixir but perhaps consider this: elixir PhosBronze in medium-light gauge.  IMHO, these sound great with lots of bass punch and depth, but also a crisp top end that is nicely defined, particluarly when I had mine rw/cedar.

congrats on the 414ceFLTD, burl 8)

i'll go somewhat "against-the-grain", especially with the bone nut & saddle, & suggest giving
a set of GHS infinity bronze lights (IB30L) a shot to try to bump the warmth up just a smidgen

Welcome to the forum. Try John Pearse 80/20 lights.  My rosewood guitars sound great with them.

+1 here.  PB medium-light would sound great.
