My first Road Show...
« on: March 18, 2014, 02:31:23 AM »
Just got back from the Road Show.  No, I didn't bring a new guitar home with me... not that the Blonde wasn't encouraging it.  They had a gorgeous K22ce that was sweet.  I was hoping the deal would be better than what was offered, so I left it on the wall.

The Road Show was interesting, entertaining, and educational.  Joan enjoyed it as much as I did.  I think she was most impressed with the new T5z.  Kenny played the heck out of it!

The Road Show was as much fun as everyone here said.  I was surprised at how small the venue was (Acoustic Vibes in Tempe) - a nice selection of guitars, but a small space.  I guess I was expecting a LOT of people, and was a bit surprised when we got there early and there were fewer than 20 chairs set up.  Turned out to be standing room only, so I'm glad we were there early (and had seats up front).

Best wishes,
Captain Jim (and the Blonde)

Nice write-up in your blog, Jim. In Tucson on Sat., we only had about 15 people show up. Probabaly because they just did a show a couple of months ago. That K22 looks mighty nice. I've noticed that discounts on the K's never go very deep.

Surprising it was your first road show, coming from a road warrior like you.  Going to my next one in May.  ps great idea to take along the blonde--my wife bought me a BTO at one road show.

How can I find out Taylor's Roadshow schedule? I would like to attend. Oh, BTW - that smilin' fella on the left in your first picture, CPT Jim - he was the very informative gentleman I spoke with at Wintergrass. Convinced me I GOTTA HAVE a 814ce! My lovely wife and bank account says otherwise, tho.

Seems that our travels take us to places where guitar shops aren't prevalent - may be time to change our travel mode.  ;)  Joan (the Blonde) is the one who first saw the posting for the local Road Show on Taylor's site... she said, "We're going!"  We would have driven to Tucson for the RS and FYF on the 15th, but we already had tickets for a Little River Band concert that night.

Check out "Events" on Taylor's website...

As mentioned, bringing the wife to a Road Show might be helpful.  On the ride home after the RS, Joan said, "I really understand the sizes and woods better now.  I see why those people on the Taylor forum (UTGF) like having a bunch of guitars."  I think this makes me the frugal one in our family.  :)  That said, my 814ce is my favorite guitar.

Best wishes,
Jim

I went to MY first show last night too. It was in Daytona. About 30 or so people in attendance, and it was an enjoyable presentation. The biggest surprise for me was seeing how many left handed guitars were on display (not a lefty so...) And that they did NOT have a baritone with them this particular night.

I along with every one else played a few guitars, and I was prepared to buy if the right one said hello.....but it's pretty hard to hear when everyone else is playing at the same time so? I'll visit the store again and look at their normal stock, I appreciate that a local shop (not a chain) made the Taylor event available.

They drew names.  We should have bought a lottery ticket on the way home  ;)... I got a set of the new Elixir HD lights strings, Joan got a t-shirt (she asked for it in my size - what a woman!).   :)

No, she is The Blonde - her goatee is much lighter than mine.   ;D  For the record, she does look good in my shirt... as a mini-dress.  And, I think I am offended, being labeled as "the hangover image."

Drawing names is much better. At the one I went to, if you asked an intelligent question, you got something. I am pretty shy....didn't ask anything. Besides, it was dominated by a group of people. I did ask a couple things after the presentation that I was curious about. By then, everything was handed out. So, I got what Polly shot at. A drawing would have been more fun for me. Sounds like you did ok.

At my first road show, in Hilo Hawaii, the shop owner put up a GS-Mini in the drawing. So cool because the lady that won it was there wanting her first guitar.
