Taylor 150
« on: March 06, 2014, 08:41:44 AM »
well i was hoping to see something new in the 100-200 series and I did. 150 12 string dread.
kinda hoping for a 112, 116, 212, 216.. maybe even a hog top in either .... more my price range.
so i guess I'll have to splurge. 514 if I can find one to play first.

Where did you see the 150 as being a new offering? That sounds really interesting.

Last year I kind of wished for a 212. My husband ended up encouraging me to get what I really wanted, so I ended up with a 512ce. But, I do think a GC in the 100 and 200 series would do well.

Sounds like a potential winner, possibly offering a Taylor 12 in the 100 Series

That news comes out of left field!  Didn't see that coming at all.  Maybe this shows that Taylor is willing to expand the lower series guitars, and that's a good thing.  Bring on a 112 please, better yet a 112 12-fret! LOL. :P

How about a baritone in the 100 series? I think a much lower price point on a guitar viewed as an "extra" would be nice, and more people willing to buy.

I agree with Good News Guy, The baritone intrigues me but not to the tune of the high priced spread. An inexpensive Taylor Baritone would be well welcomed to the community I think. And would work quite well as to form and function in the 100 series format.

Didn't see anybody post the link to it here yet, so here it is, for those who want to check out the details..

I guess its cool that they have an affordable 12 string in the line up..
Kinda surprised they didn't go with a GS body shape though..

been thinking of adding a 12'er to my small collection but couldn't justify the price for something that i don't have a lot of use for. depending on the starting price, i might just have to find a spot in my guitar room( basement...it's the basement) wall for one.

very cool 8)

it shows to have the standard 12er nut width of 1 7/8" & ES, rather than ES-T
nice :)

if  the X16 & X12 were to be released in the future, i'd expect to see them in the 200s first -
a 216e & 212e-K SB DLX would be pretty sweet, imho :D

I'm surprised they did this. I hope it doesn't dent the sales of their "deluxe" 12-string models. But that probably also explains why the 150e is a dreadnought shape: if you want a non-dread body style, you have to upgrade...

This would be a great addition.  I have a K65ce that is beautiful but I'm hesitant to take out on gigs often.  A Easy playing Taylor 12 string at a pricepoint that I wouldn't have to worry as much about gigging would be great add to the herd!!!  Bring it on!!!

That is news to me too, and a great idea!

I own an older Taylor 450 with hog sides and back, and I love it.  I think the dread body size for a 12-string works very well.  The affordable price of a 1 series plus the projection you get from the curved back should make the 150 a really nice buy!

I totally agree!  A 12-er in DN at the lower-end of the price range is a stellar idea!  Not to mention a bari: as was previously suggested is a great guit to have as a niche instrument, but IMHO too costly an investment for what many use as just a niche instrument.  Good job, Taylor!

BTW, James, I think you've hit it right on the head: a DN shape is nicely traditional, for both aesthetics and voicing, but if said owner is bowled over by this guitar, he may consider "upgrading" to a GS-bodied 12 string ...or should I say 12-$tring ...lol :)
But heck, again kudos to the factory for making this an ES and not an ES-T.  Me thinks they are finding uses for the old system before they go all-out on the ES2 ...may just be time for me to upgrade my ES gen2 to a gen3 before they run out... :D
