New Wood & Steel
« on: February 04, 2014, 08:38:54 PM »
The new issue of Wood & Steel arrived today, and it's a very classy format with Kurt getting a haircut (I shouldn't talk), Andy & Bob doing a joint Q&A, lots of great eye candy, and as much information about the 800 series as any Taylor fan would want. It's a definite keeper issue...

I hope mine didn't deliver today..... It has rained hard all day so I didn't venture to the box. Whatever is in there will be wet from the moisture for sure!

it's viewable on Taylor's website
http://www.taylorguitars.com/sites/default/files/Wood-Steel_Winter-2014_EN.pdf
it arrived at my FLGS today & the cover is the equivalent to a dust jacket on a quality hardback book -
there's a letter from Kurt on the front cover foldout & the use of the specific materials serves more
than one purpose, which will be apparent once gets the pages regarding the finish on the new 800s 8)

I could not help it, I peeked.  I normally don't check the digital issue, but I took a quick look.  I feel like I did when I was 7 and unwrapped a Christmas gift.  After seeing all the great eye candy I don't care that I peeked  :) :D ;D :o

Digital vs hard copy are obviously the same in terms of content. However, as a long-time recipient of Wood & Steel, I think that this issue has a refreshed and spiffy feel compared to past issues. As MichaelW pointed out, the cover has a dust jacket appearance and is heavier than on past issues. The article on "Finish Thickness" illustrates that this cover is 6.1 mil (the app. thickness of the "before" finish) while the thickness of the interior pages are 3.5 mil or that of the new 800 series finish...

We're in travel mode.  Mail catches up with us once a month or so.  I think the Ground Hog saw my Wood & Steel, and it will be 6 more weeks before I have it in hand.   ;)  Sometimes the guitar shops have some for give-aways.  I'll be looking forward to checking it out.

I'd be surprised if mine was delivered today. I just live up the road a bit (SF bay area), but I always seem to get mine after our Canadian friends get there's. Looking forward to it as the anticipation builds!
