I agree on the required set up "unless" it fits you right out of the gate, which is not the norm.

My new 528e was sent in to a not so local Taylor certified tech and came back to a "perfect" for me
set up. Plays like it should as it was ever so slightly off spec. Med strings were also affecting the feel for me, and
my tech and I were informed by Taylor that the string height was actually supposed to be set higher on this particular
model as opposed to 6/64. Go figure.

Couldn't agree more.  Shortly after I got my 812ce, I took it to an authorized Taylor repair guy and explained what I was looking for in the action (I like a fairly low action and I don't have a real aggressive attack---mostly play with a pick, etc.).  He did a great job and I'm really happy with the results.  If it needs any adjusting again, it's going right back to the same chap.

I've had my guitars back now for a couple of weeks and I cannot believe the difference. The guy is a true craftsman, explains patiently what and why and backs his work with a twelve month warranty. The 510 needed a little fret dressing to remove some unevenness. The base of the bridge was slightly hollow and the string slots in the nut needed correction. He reset the neck, left it a day or so and rechecked it. The slight buzziness on the "B" string has totally gone. The bottom line is the guitar is everything I hoped for when I bought it. Now the T5 was a bit of a shock. I bought it off Ebay some eight months ago and was delighted with the cosmetic condition but I always felt it wasn't "right" somehow. It took a lot of work to sort out previous hamfisted set-up "skills" and the list of faults was shocking. There were even stripped threads on the pickup mounting plate. Happily it's now sorted and I'm now really enjoying what the T5 has to offer at last. I'm absolutely delighted with the results and can't recommend this mans work highly enough. He has a very informative website, if anyone is interested. I'm no good at links but Google guitartechnicalservices which will be a UK site. :) :) :) :) :) :)
