I never abused it the lid just came un hinged on both ends so I bolted two new ones on. The rivets came thru from the inside out and the little hinge pins ended up breaking. The case is solid no problems there just weak hardware.

they probably know about the extra soundport in the side of the 314 ::)
http://www.unofficialtaylorguitarforum.com/index.php?topic=4381.msg44221#msg44221

the SKB sourced case with moulded Taylor Guitars script on the lid & aluminum frame
that came with my 314 had the lid retaining straps fail where they had been glued in -
SKB cases have a lifetime warranty, but not OEM ones supplied to guitar companies, which had a 1 year warranty &
the guitar was bought NOS, so in my case that was it & the case was gone before the guitar found a new home

The extra sound port was because of another guitar taking a fall case was not involved and certainly no fault except my own on that. I did learn from that day forward every time I put a guitar down it goes in a case with at least two latchs hooked. No I did not contact them I bought two brass hinges and eight little bolts with sixteen little washers and eight nuts.

two latches out of five ???
i doubt the issue was a faulty hinge ...

When I speak of latching two latchs that is while the case is lying on the floor so someone don't pick up the case to move it and the guitar come flying out of it while I get up to take a leak or get a drink. I don't haul it or carry it this way. The hardware is weak and that is all there is to it. Simple enough for you to understand now.

Are you the original owner of this case?  What did Taylor have to say about it?

mgap I never bothered Taylor with it I just went to the hardware and bought two new brass hinges. Problem solved. I think the lid is too heavy for the light weight hinges that came with it and they failed.

in general, clip on tuners & straps should be removed from the guitar before it is cased -
the tuner may leave a mark on the headstock from the padded clamp material & it is
possible that a strap may react with the finish of certain guitars if draped over the top

the chances of unnecessary scratches or headstock marks/nicks
may be reduced by removing the tuner & strap when not in use

No signs of any marks or finish changes from this clip-on tuner after more than 6 months.  I only put the strap on the guitar in the case when I'm heading out to a gig.  I would HOPE that a Taylor suede strap would not adversely affect the Taylor guitar finish in any way!   :o

i stated in general because Taylor doesn't make their own guitar straps or tuners or polish -
it's better to err on the side of caution & Taylor does as
their static pickguards carry an advisory for pre 95 guitars
https://www.taylorguitars.com/taylorware/pickguard-static-universal
i thought that by the time the 94 XX-GA models were out, the finish
used was UV, except for maybe the satin finish on the 400 series
http://www.themusiczoo.com/blog/2010/taylor-guitars-serial-number-dating-guide/
i guess not :-\

i love the tight fit of my taylors. i know they aren't gonna shake around in there.

Me, too.  Like someone above, I stick the lower bout in, then push the guitar into the case by the bridge to keep from getting fingerprints on the top.  Love the snugness.  It's like closing the door on a Rolls Royce.
I too have a tight case for my 512 GC 12 Fret. I start with the lower bout but must add the upper before applying any pressure. I would avoid applying pressure to the bridge but apply it close to the edge where the is support from the sides.

My acoustics cases are all snug. Do I detect some air resistance during the casing process? Faux snugness.

All my new Taylor's cases were quite snug to begin with (like a new pair of tight jeans), but they now fit the associated guitar really well with lower resistance (like an old pair of well-fitted jeans!)...
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood
