Howdy from Kentucky
« on: November 11, 2013, 09:41:33 PM »
Hope all y'all are doin' fine.

Al here, actually I've only lived in KY. for 4yrs but I'm gettin' the lingo down...Spent the first 50 years in the Detroit area.

In any event,  I'm in the market for my first new acoustic in 30yrs. and I've narrowed it down to  Taylor.  Just need to decide which one.

I only play at home but sure do enjoy it.

Nice to meet y'all

y'all definitely got the vernacular down. taylor is a fine choice. there are so many to choose from though. most of us here own multiple brands and aren't real fanatics about one brand or the other...well, there is that one guy but we don't invite him to the annual UTGF picnic anymore.
glad to have you here. your quest will be a difficult one for sure. there are so many quality taylors available. what are you planning on using it for? strumming mostly? fingerstyle?

Hi Al, and welcome. If you can, get out to a Taylor Road Show, or a Find Your Fit event sponsored by our buddy Bob. If that's not possible, make a list of what type of music you play, how you play(flat pick, fingerpick, strum), and what you want in a guitar, etc. Post them on here and you'll get some good answers. Won't make choosing a Taylor any easier, but may help in deciding at least a body shape. For me, I spent years buying dreadnaught guitars. Turns out my best fit for a guitar is a shorter scale Grand Concert size.

Hi Al. Welcome to the UTGF. I've been drawling southernese all my life. :) If you've narrowed things down, what are you thinking? Enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome posts everyone.

Nice to see there's another Michigander out there Taylor Girl!!   I love northern MI.!!!  Vacationed in Elk Lake every summer for years when the kids were growing up.

I've been doing a lot of research and although I started with a budget of around $2,000 and a 414ce in mind.....someone handed me a 814ce and I think that's what's coming home real soon.  They have 18 months no interest financing so that makes spend the extra $$$ less painful.

I did attend a Road Show this past Thur. at Buddy Rogers Music in Cincinnatti and had I not already been leaning towards an 814ce I would have come away with too many choices.  Fortunately almost all the guitars they brought were out of my price range, but it was fun to play them!!!

For what it's worth I like to play many types from strumming to finger style, but only around the house.

Welcome to the forum. Check out every Taylor you can find. They're all wonderful, but they all sound different, depending on the woods they're made of. Have fun!
