Action on new 612e
« on: September 14, 2013, 09:57:21 AM »
Hello.  53 year-old cardiologist here.  Trying to regain my adolescent Travis picking chops (it never leaves you, just gets rusty).  Just bought a 612e.  Beautiful.  Going to take it to a reputable Taylor service service center and have the action lowered a bit.  Elixir lights don't seem 'light' enough with respect to the low E, A and D.  Was going to try lighter gauge with those, but I will discuss with the guys at Brother's Music Shop in Wind Gap, PA.  They both used to work at Martin.  Possibly shave the bridge down.

Welcome to the forum kidrid!
Would love to see NGD pictures of your 612e.  Don't see enough of the maple Taylors here.

Hi kidrid. Welcome to the UTGF. Congrats on the new 612e. It's always good to seek professional help when needed.  :) I love the look and sound of maple.  8) Enjoy.

Welcome kidrid!

Awesome choice of a guitar you made. I bet you can't wait to get the action set to your liking. Please post some pictures of your Taylor. We need to feed the photo hungry guitar crazies( that includes me)!

I will upload the pics as soon as I load them onto my laptop.  This guitar is awesome because the neck has a perfect contour and it is a satin finish, not high gloss.  The satin finish won't 'grab' your palm and thumb like high gloss finishes can do.  It is the Grand Concert body, which is smaller the than the GA or GS, and is 'brighter' sounding because of the maple.  Perfect for fingerstyle.
Not sure if I'm being too picky about the string height.  Just need to play it more.
Thanks for your interest!
