Hi, My name is Tony and I'm a GAS afflicted gearoholic.  I'm loving my new to me Taylor 214CE/Prototype DDX sig model.  1st question do many Taylor owners add bone saddles to their gits?

A warm welcome Known4tone! I have 4 Taylors and none have bone saddles... Maybe I should investigate, I started guitar at age 50 and do not have the "ear" I need as many of our fellow members have aquired ...I may be in for a big surprise... 8)

Welcome from another new Taylor owner.  Many folks swear by bone saddles and nuts, but its really up to the sound YOU want.  The 'casual listener' would not hear the difference in sound.

Welcome to the forum and ongratulations on your new guitar.

I replaced both the nut and saddle of my oldest Taylor with bone. I found the change in sound so subtle that I couldn’t justify the expense of replacing those parts on my other Taylors. I’m happy with Tusq. It is more consistent than bone. Bone, like anything in nature varies, though perhaps not as much as wood does, and it is that inevitable inconsistency that may partially explain why reports of the results which forum members have experienced varies from adversely affecting tone to a dramatic improvement. (A small number od members posted that they went back to Tusq,) I suspect that those reporting the most dramatic improvement may have compared the sound of Tusq with worn out strings to the sound of bone with brand new strings. That is not to say that some people have not experienced a change in tone they found preferable by switching to bone.
