414ce or 416ce?? My 2 cents
« Reply #15 on: March 30, 2014, 05:25:31 AM »
Hi
Thought I would throw in my two cents.   I have a takamine 12 string and continue to adore it but after a real guitar lesson in Travis picking I realized I really needed to move to a good 6 string.  I settled  first with the 314-414ce series after trying a used 416ce.  The store had a 30 day return policy so at day 29 I brought it back and ordered the 416ce.
Why?   After finger picking the 414ce and felt I had to push the lower strings more to get the bass out of it. I had remembered the used 416ce was a little softer but more rich in the lower registers.  My taste.  But don't get me wrong, the 414ce is probably overall the best balance in the mid to high range.  For me I got the sound I wanted and the 416ce does it.
Recently I was in Wilmington NC and visited a guitar store that had s lot of Taylors.  A  816ce, which is really stunning, a 414 and a 416.  Played them all. Still happy with my 416ce.
I did compare the. 314-316 to the. 414-416 models. Could not tell acoustically and difference but in the wood used.  That goes with the 816ce.  They also had there an. 8 string Taylor !   That is definitely a special animal!
