Most Honey Sunbursts I've seen look quite different, and I've probably seen more than most. Maybe seeing the top would've made it more apparent...

This is what Honey Sunburst normally looks like. As you can see, it's much darker around the edges:

A few factors could explain the differences --

Lighting -- since Taylor's sunbursts tend to be a little more delicate and less opaque than say, a Gibson, they seem to be more susceptible to change depending on the lighting. For example, sometimes Taylor's tobacco sunburst looks darker like Gibson, and other times it has a brownish or even reddish tint in the dark areas when under certain lighting conditions (especially casual flash photography).

Age -- not necessarily that the sunburst has aged (although that could be a factor in some cases), but that Taylor's sunbursts have changed over the years (I personally think they just keep getting better) and I think they're currently darker and more well-defined like the photo Left Coaster posted -- likely because they've introduced several different edgeburst type finishes for lighter bursts?

Variation -- when I took the Taylor tour a couple years ago, they were still doing the sunbursts by hand -- which means you're going to have variation from guitar to guitar, day to day, even if it's the same person doing every single one.

Just a few guesses -- don't want to get into another sunburst debate :)

This looks more like tobacco to me; however, my time is too valuable to quibble over the color. When the past issues of Wood & Steel are available, they will show the previous burst colors that used to be available. :)

the purpose of this thread is for pics of your Taylor,
not pics of a Taylor that have been directly linked from a dealer's secured website
(which was severely-underexposed with uncorrected color-temperature)

I was just trying to show the difference between the two finishes...

What about just posting a link? Often times, this may be the only way to show an example of something...

hi left coaster,
i understand that you were trying to show an example -
Cindy has originally asked a question regarding different type of figured maple &
all the pics shown were of other member's guitars, then the pics & discussion
turned to different finishes & the pics, again were still of other member's guitars

a link is fine & posts have been edited to show them

also, i wondering if you might happen to have a pic or two of your 314 ???
i really like the other pics that you posted ... thanks for sharing them :D

Here's one for ya':

Here's the 2002 314:

It was the first non-CE guitar to have the ES installed once they started doing retrofits. I've since had the ES updated to the 9v system...

Very nice! The black tuner buttons are a nice touch -- did you swap the tuners out or just the buttons? If the latter, mind sharing a little on that process and where you got them? :)

I just swapped out the buttons but, to be honest, it was so long ago I don't recall where I got them. I'm pretty sure I bought them locally. If I recall, they were from All Parts.

It was really pretty easy. Taylor was still using Grovers back then. A simple backing out of the screw, sliiping the new knob on and tightening the screw back in was all it took...

Left Coaster, I love the look of the top. It has a little bit of a striped or shaded dark/light look to it. :) Very purty. BTW, did it come with the pick guard factory installed, or did you add that later?
