Michael, thanks for the YouTube link! 8) That was very informative! :)
you're welcome Cindy :)
it looks like the video was recorded around 2004,
as Bob is wearing a 1974-2004 30th anniversary shirt :)

Taylor uses nothing that's referred to as "bubble quilt" or "sausage quilt"...
perhaps not specifically listed on the BTO sheet (a & aa-quilt),
but Bob does describe a couple of different types of quilt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJMLE7G2IIk
5:18 flat sawn quilt (bubbly)

5:28 quarter sawn quilt (sausage)

imho, the naming of the figuring can be subjective, like tone ...
curly, flamed, fiddleback & tiger-stripe could  all fall under 'flamed' category, as they are not 'quilted'

Well, I can tell you this, if someone viewing those pictures orders a Maple guitar with "sausage quilt", he's likely to be disappointed...

maybe ???

or maybe not, if the correct pic was being viewed ::)

from the upper bout to just above the waist, the quilt runs across continuously, like a link ...
well, you know ;)

Of course, BTO's aren't really built by everyone looking at pictures. They're built with BTO sheets and a computer program.

A computer program that lists neither "sausage" or "bubble" quilt...

"I'd like to order sausage quilt, please."

"Links or patties?"

"Patties, please.  Oh yeah, could I get the hashbrown headstock overlay too?"

Steve
looks yummy ;D
very nice '3-link' combined with a touch of honeyburst (looks like) :D
the outer parts of the upper bout especially stand out &
i like that the panels are not separated with purfling lines

i imagine one could  make a request with the dealer when placing a BTO order &
it would be dependent on the wood sets available (which are selected by people)
2 or 3 piece back & when specifying premium quilt, it could be pretty amazing, imho :)

just noticed that aa-quilt was not offered on the latest BTO lists,
but it was available in the first quarter of last year ... hmm ???

specifications & availability subject to change without notice ...

Sure the wood's selected by people. I'm not sure what that means, though. If you put "sausage quilt" on a BTO sheet, you're going to get "quilt". The person selecting the wood isn't going to contact the Rep and ask if a wood set is "sausagey" enough; that's just not gonna' happen...

What's offered through BTO is dictated by the wood they're able to procure. If it's not on the current BTO sheet, it's because they don't have enough of it to offer in the BTO program...

So, would this be considered an Edgeburst? Cherry Sunburst?
Kinda cool, for sure..

Actually I'd call that the honey sunburst. My previous 614ce had a back that was colored very similarly. If it were just an edgeburst, then the center of the back would be much blonder in color.

Actually I'd call that the honey sunburst which is an option for the 6xx maple guitars. My previous 614ce had a back that was colored very similarly. If it were just an edgeburst, then the center of the back would be much blonder in color.

Wow, three posts of the same thing!

And it's Edgeburst, not Honey Sunburst...

LOL! You really need to check out your facts, Left Coaster. Mine was a modify-a-model which I specifically ordered with an Engelmann top and the Honey Burst finish. At the time, it only came with the option of 2 choices of bursts: tobacco and honey.

Like I said earlier, the edgeburst is coloring only around the edge...not the center.

So there you have it...FOUR posts of the same thing! ::)

 ;)

EDIT: Astually it was my 914ce where I had the choice of these two color bursts. 'The 614ce had these two plus a few other colors. However, the above is definitely honey burst. :)
