there can never be such a thing as too much maple, imho ;)

Without a doubt a stunner. ;D

That's a beauty ya got there, Michael! ...I remember you posting that some time ago.  A GA, right?  Can't recall the top ...refresh our memories here ...with a pic :)

Edward
yep, it's a 614cL2 :)
at the time, over 10 years ago, it was called 900 grade engelmann,
but i think it goes by either a-grade or premium engelmann now

Without a doubt a stunner. ;D
thanks :D
the tone's not too shabby either ;)

Love love love this one...engel/maple goodness with a flat-out gorgeous voice :D

and the rich coco binding's hues frame the stark light woods beautifully, not to mention the lovely green-heart touch :)

Edward

Love that combo - what a beauty! Here's my Engelmann/maple sweetheart:

Hey there SF,
Well you certainly know what I'm talking about then!  Is your beauty a GA?  That's quite the dramatic burst ...the back looks like it's on fire, wow! :)

Michael,
Ha, another engel top with maple, cool!  And your back and neck combo is like some long-lost twin to mine, albeit blue!

The engel/maple is a glorious tonal combo, IMHO ...and you guys seem to agree, lol!  Heck, it's like the whole family is out to play!  Enjoy!

That Engelmann/maple sunburst is gorgeous Strumming Fool!  I had a 614 sitka/flamed maple for a while but it just sounded too thin, though I did love the sparkle of maple.  I've always wanted to try an Engelmann/maple GA to see if that would give me what I was looking for.

Thanks-

I too have always like maple Taylors, but the standard GA models did sound a bit too thin for my taste. The Engelmann top combined with quilted maple gives the guitar more warmth, and the CV bracing added some nice bottom thump as well. Note decay is still typical of maple, but this guitar has a strong, rich, fundamental voice, which makes it a joy to play after all my other guitars with more harmonic overtones...

Yes it is beauty.  I noticed that the fingerboard is the smokey style, I love it.  How long ago did you get this? I am thinking it must be one of the first non solid ebony fingerboards Taylor released.

I ordered it in September of 2012, shortly after Bob Taylor talked about the ebony situation. I wanted that look, and would choose it again for my next BTO, because it makes each guitar more of a one-off. Since that photo, I've changed the bridge pins to dyed bone to match the koa trim, and I changed the tuner buttons to snakewood for a similar effect. It's really a colorful guitar now!

Taylor has been selling guitars with marbled fretboards for years.   I think they have rebranded what they have been using for a long time as smoky.  I do believe that in the past the marbling was less extreme in many example.  But then again many of their new guitars vary now as well.
