It is the standard gloss. Does it not quite look like that? It might just be the lighting.
i guess it could be the lighting -
the reflection on either side of the fretboard extension & the area outside of the
pickguard closest to the treble waist look like more of a 'vintage'-style finish (to me)

from the angle of the pic, the pickguard stands out a little more & looks 'super-glossy' -
i thought that if the finish was 'hand-rubbed', i was curious if you felt the tone was enhanced

just an observation ...
thanks for the clarification :)

I was fortunate enough to have gone to the "Friends And Family" event at the factory yesterday. Although there was a lot of fantastic stuff, I think I got one of the best scores of the day. Meet my new R Taylor Style 1 w/cutaway, Macassar Ebony back, sides and backstrap, Adirondak Spruce top, 65' Radius top, modified x-bracing, and ebony binding.
She plays and sounds as good as she looks too, I love the balance of this guitar!

are you kidding me ???

wow :o

i was thinking that if i were to spec a BTO, that would be it -
adi/macassar, GS, venetian cutaway ...

that is sweet :D

just wondering if it has the 65' radius top with modified x bracing or
the flat top geometry with asymmetrical bracing pattern ...
that & the scale length, neck carve & width at the nut (heh)

congrats !

65' Radius top, modified x-bracing
nice :)

thanks for sharing the pics, too

standard scale/neck carve, bone saddle & nut (1 3/4") ?
sorry, i got a little carried away ::)

any possibility of posting a link to a soundclip -
i found one, but the echo/room reverb in the room is terrible
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-OcSyqKUZY

if not, if you've played a spring 09 716ceLTD sitka CV/madi,
how would you describe the tonal difference between the two ?

sorry to be such a bother, but ... that is such a cool guitar :D

hey Michael.. good find on that video..
I am 99.5% sure that is the ACTUAL guitar I wound up buying! The top is pretty distinctive in coloring and markings, as is the back, obviously..There was discussion from another forum member that some of the R Taylors that were available had come back unsold from the UK.. Its a 2007, dead mint, unsold.
I am guessing it it true.
I can get you clip, but likely not until next weekend or so.. Its killer though..
I don't know if I'd compare it to Madgascar so much for the low end, but its very even, without a lot of long sustain..

Davwir - I was just looking at those pix of your guitar and realized I was salivating. I don't believe I've ever salivated over a non-food item before in my life. I agree - you got a great score! Now, I have to go find something to eat.
2004 Taylor 614ce L30 (daughter's guitar)
2007 Taylor 612ce

i rechecked the video at 0:33, froze it & compared the backs -
it is indeed the same guitar (identical grain pattern) ...
since it came from the UK, would it be considered 'imported' ;)

i'd love to hear a clip, when you get a chance

thanks again, for sharing :)

davwir, that is one IMPRESSIVE looking guitar! The back looks to be more figured than striped which is all I've ever seen before in Macassar. Congratulations on a beauty!
