How frequent does the ES system string ground fuse blows up?
« on: February 03, 2013, 06:05:46 PM »
I have a 4 month young Taylor 314ce but couple of weeks ago i've noticed an annoying static noise when plugging in to my Fishman Loudbox Mini.
When I touch a metal part of my guitar cable the noise vanishes. So i'd suspect it was a blown up fuse and ordered a couple of fuses from Taylorware website (i'm still waiting for it to arrive).

Now I wonder, in a year, how many times do you guys change the ES fuse in your guitar?

Statistically speaking, it is an infrequent occurrence but if you are unlucky enough to often encounter faulty wiring, the rate at which you blow fuses will be outside the mean.

An inexpensive AC outlet tester like the one below will enable you to identify outlets that aren't properly wired without using your guitar's fuses as a circuit tester.

I have had my 816CE for 3 years. Never had to change fuse. I play it weekly at church and occasionally other venues.

I've had a variety of ES-equipped guits over the years ...all played out.  Never had the misfortune of having the string fuse go on me.

With a proper grounded wiring, the fuse should last for almost forever.
It is a good practice to check the grounding condition at any venue or even at home.

I had the same exact thing happening with my brand new 814ce. It turn out that the internal fuse blew. Taylor sent me a new fuse and sent me to a local authorized repair shop. The replaced the fuse, but in a pretty short time the same thing happened. I called Taylor Service again (they are excellent, BTW) and the sent me a coupe of more fuses. The third fuse went in and I have not had a problem since. Now I have a couple of spare fuses just in case.

The fuse I've ordered just arrive. I hope it will fix the static noise problem and i hope i won't change it frequently.
