Pimped my Taylor
« on: November 16, 2012, 07:06:25 PM »
So I just received my custom TRC courtesy of Bill Nichols & installed it last night along with new ebony tuner buttons & some Elixir nano pb's.  The abalone on the trc looks great when the light hits it from different angles. I also like the look & feel of the ebony buttons + they are significantly lighter than the stock chrome tuners.

I've gone solely with 80/20s since the GA4 last year...looking forward to experiencing new tones with the pb's.  -AW-

That is a nice TRC you chose, Bill does nice work. I like the ebony buttons as well, I have been thinking about getting some Cocobolo buttons for my 814.

When I saw your thread title I thought you had let someone else play the guitar. ;)

It's one of the terrapin turtles from the Grateful Dead album cover 'Terrapin Station'... yes, playing tamborine (the other turtle plays the banjo)

This is me on the AGF...but I did the same thing.  I swapped out the gold tuners for some "ebonoid" tuners.  I've heard in the past that some true ebony tuners have had trouble "cracking" if the humidity isn't kept up.

I also explain in the link below that the person I bought them from...had the tuners match identically to the Taylor tuner profile.  They are exact shapes.

Very nice.....I got the Stealy.  Did Bill try to steer you away from the Turtle?  I had them on the table for consideration when I was buying and he was pretty clear that he wasn't a big fan of them.  Nonetheless, he did a great job on yours.

Thought it was a Turtle Pocket Watch.

Why are the black tuning pegs better than the gold ones?

Not better, but I think they look better though...just my .02 cents.
