When I ordered my BTO (
http://www.unofficialtaylorguitarforum.com/index.php?topic=2057.0 ) I also got some string sets to try out. I played the Elixirs for a couple months now, and changed out to the Newtones (PB, .012-.052, medium light) yesterday. Since you are not supposed to trim them until you're tuned to pitch, they're a bit of a pain, but I only drew blood once restringing the slot head!
I like them a lot! I liked them on my Lowden too (though I ended up with Wyres on that), so I am not surprised. The are stiffer than the Elixirs, which helps on the high E, 'cause I kept pulling it off the fretboard, and that problem is gone, They are also more rounded in tone. With the capo on 3, they are unbelievably sweet playing Doug Young's "While She Sleeps" in DADGAD. So far so good, and a edge over Elixirs.
More to follow.
