I know very little about pickups in acoustics, but I say "go for it"!  Of course I hope you've done your homework on all the options/brands available to use in acoustics.  I hear a lot about L Baggs systems.  Is there an acoustic pick- up that doesn't use a battery?  I would hate to have to drill holes and such...

That sounds like a good set up then, esp if it can be removed and the guitar brought back to original shape.

Assuming it's a sound-hole pickup then you'll be fine. It will be fairly magnetic in character and it may get in the way of strumming or fingerpicking - it's why I never got on with mine and installed a Fishman Natural Matrix in my Guild instead.

In the world of Acoustic pickups, Dean Markley isn't a very popular name.

Here is a list of pretty nice pickups that start around $100 and go from there.

Sound Hole pickups
LR Baggs M1 or M80
Fishman Rare Earth

Undersaddle Pickup
D-TAR Wavelength
Pick Up The World
Fishman Matrix Infinity

Undersaddle transducer or microphone
K&K Pure Mini Western
LR Baggs Anthem

Here is a good place to check out Acoustic pickups.  You can give them a call and ask lots of questions as well.

You 410 is a nice guitar, I'd give it a pickup that will do it justice.

FWIW, "drilling" the guitar is inconsequential.  All you're doing is making the strap end pin "screw hole" into a 1/2" hole to accomodate an output jack.  And if you sell the guitar but want to keep the pup (ok, and how many people really do that?) all you do is buy a 1/2" endpin jack (say from StewMac or elsewhere for a couple o bucks) that fits the now-vacant 1/2" hole and has a standard strap button on the end: looks and functions 100% stock.  One is not marring or adversely altering a guitar in any way by adding a pup that is more "integrated" than a simple soundhole pup.

BTW, just adding in the above as an FYI.  There are plenty of decent soundhole pups if that is your inclination.  I've installed Fishmans and Baggs units on various friends' guitars over the years and they work/sound fine.  What your tonal desires and/goals are is a highly personal matter so choose accordingly :)
