Taylor 12 String at Olympic closing ceremony?
« on: August 13, 2012, 06:05:59 PM »
I've just watched the Olympic closing ceremony a day late because I was working last night.  It looked like Mike Rutherford was playing a Taylor 12 string during "Wish You Were Here" (I'm not biased but I thought it was the best sounding guitar on the night!).  Did anybody else spot it and if so what the model was - it looked like a jumbo cutaway of some sort?  I'm a Brit so (mostly) loved the olympic opening and closing ceremonies but did any of you from across the pond understand what it was all about and/or enjoy it, I have a suspicion it was a little too quirky and British for it's own good?!?!

My guess is Yamaha:

The most compelling aspect of the comparison is the headstock...

Oops - thanks for putting me right Steve, so much for my observational and guitar identification skills :-[!  I think I let my enthusiasm for all things Taylor get the better of me in the wave of enthusiasm for the Olympics which has swept the country.  This was my first attempt at posting a new thread and it's ended up with a picture of Yamaha and Martin guitars being shown on a Taylor forum (still the musicians playing them are pretty cool)!!  I'll try and do better next time...

Not the Olympics, but here's Gilmour playing WYWH on his Taylor a few years back:

Andy, I enjoyed watching the clip - thanks.  Our band is going to do a cover of this soon so it will really help me to learn it!  I hesitate to try and identify another guitar (!) but he's got to be playing the 712ce of roughly 2001 era I know he has.  It's like mine but still has the Fishman electrics.  I could never get a good amplified sound without feedback with mine (I know he has some pretty fancy gear and technicians to help him - I Googled it during my attempts to find a way to get mine to work), but the change to the 3rd generation ES has transformed it.

I watched most of the Olympics and the open/close ceremonies and enjoyed the British humor (Disclaimer:  my dad was from London and I have family in Peterborough so I get the humor from all things British).  Disliked very much NBC's broadcast but that's a rant for another thread.

I thought the lead guy was playing a Martin Style 5 guitar like Marty Robbins used to play.  I noticed BC my newest acquisition is a terz guitar and I'm in love.
