wider nut widths for the 12 fret models-wider string spacing at the saddle also.
and a slope shoulder dread.

I was wondering if anyone knows if Taylor has ever made a 600 series/Maple b & s with a redwood top? I saw that on the option list of Michael's poll above and it made me wonder. I suppose if they ever did make one, it would have had to be a BTO? I would be extremely curious as to what this combination would sound like.
hi John,
i can think of at least 2, although they with pre-Standard II bracing & had extremely figured (quilted) 'non-sinker' tops on them
from what i've played, i feel that redwood takes a good bit of cedar's warmth & adds the 'snap', immediacy & headroom of sitka,
with somewhat 'darker' overtones, still very strong fundamentals with maple, with longer sustain (decay is not a quick as ) & i feel
that redwood is better suited for maple than cedar (although a stiff cedar top with adi CV would most likely close the gap a good bit) ...

all i can say is if one were to spec a BTO with sinker/maple, they'd be for a treat (imho) ;) :)

Michael - thanks for the outstanding overview of what a Maple/Redwood guitar would be like!

Great suggestions, all.  But I would think offering the 100/200s with a the 1 3/4" nut would also be a huge plus.  Add that to the GSm as well!

All Gloss on the 300 and 400 series

Adi CV bracing option for everything!

I have often wondered what ovangkol would sound like with the CV bracing. Would the mids overpower the bass and treble? Anyone have (or ever played) an ovangkol BTO with CV bracing who can offer a description?

hi Cindy,

Strumming was able to play an ovangkol BTO with adi top/adi CV bracing &
he has a GA BTO sinker/ovangkol, so hopefully he'll 'chime-in' here :)

Hi- yes my ovangkol (sinker topped) BTO has Adi CV bracing. In my mind's ear's memory, I didn't find the mids to be overpowering at all on that Adi/ovangkol GS at Martin Music. Regarding my BTO, the midrange has a bit of the scoop usually found in rosewood. While the mids are thick and present, the highs and bass really give this guitar its mojo.
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

One item that wasn't on the list that I would love to see as an option....bound sound port.  I've played a few guitars with them, and it really benefits the player IMO.  I would have one on my future BTO if it was an option.

I would like to see the headstock with a glossy finish on all guitars that are glossy, like my 814ce.

Jim
i think that would a be nice touch also :)
on the acoustics XX-5 to 8, the rosewood headstocks are gloss,
while on the CEs, only the ebony & 900 headstocks are gloss
