Even unamplified, my maple GA is a banjo killer.

although not 'standard' woods, i'd suggest possibly
considering an engelmann/rosewood adi CV model

714ce video link

i imagine that the 716ce would complement the others quite sweetly :)

Hard to argue with all the "cut through the mix" analysis.  I'll just give you my experience. In 20 plus years of playing contemporary christian music in various settings from intimate worship settings to concert settings, I've grown partial to cedar/rosewood.  I have both a 710 and a 714 and both are great in live band settings.

From the time I started this thread until now, I believe I have learned from all the responses (thank you!), and my hearing and perceptions have changed as well:

1)  Yesterday (Sunday) in church "live band" P&W using the 315ce, to compensate for the other instruments (piano/bass/drums and another acoustic guitar) I backed off the "bass" knob on the 315ce's Expression preamp, and cranked up the treble eq knob on the mixer to "1/4 past noon" or "3:00" setting.  Note I wasn't going for gold, but I was trying it as an experiment since normally I just plug in and go and don't scrutinize tone settings except the settings on the guitar.  This backing off the lows at the guitar (and its a jumbo, it produces lows) plus increasing the highs at the mixer allowed me to hear my guitar much more distinctly through the mix.

2)  I re-purchased (from GC) a new (2011) 615ce (Maple/spruce) that I previously purchased and then returned because I judged it to be "dead".  While the store had it back, I pointed out the deadness, and the Tech there (and yes he is competent) agreed and replaced the strings w/ factory std. Elixir nanos.  That literally woke that guitar up, it now sounds alive, well and toneful, yet with flat response.  So this will eventually work its way to being #1 to use live Sundays. I now have a Maple guitar to try "in the mix".

I'm trying to have several different colors-on-the-palete to choose from:  Maple/spruce, ovangkol/spruce, & sapele/spruce.  I intend to use them all "live band" and otherwise.

@michaelw,

Is this a tone wood combination that is killer-good in a "live band mix"?   :)

Thanks,

Well that is perfect, I am ready for a world tour. Now if I could get some tour dates and I guess I'll need to put songs together and........ Oh, one more thing is learn how to play well.

Cedar/rosewood, I do love that tone.  And Cedar/mahogany for that matter.   :)

I've been watching American Idol, Philip Philips plays either a GA7 or GS7, it does have that unique tone.  However, I usually feel his guitar gets lost in the mix once all the other instruments jump in. I suppose that's just how they mix it (or not mix it).

from the tone Wayne Johnson was getting (with a very heavy attack),
i believe it that it would do well, in terms of depth, clairity & headroom,
as well as having the smoothness & responsive for fingerstyle pieces also

there are also adi/mahogany & sitka/maple (both adi CV) video clips too, but
i just figured that with your current arsenal, the 716 would 'slot-in' quite nicely

either way, i'm glad the 615 is getting another shot at it -
actually, i'm looking at a 615 also ... we'll see ;)
