Did he have nice things to say about this forum?   ;D
A shameless fishing expedition if ever I saw one.  ;D
Hoping that one day a Taylor 1 11/16" 12 fret Grand Concert will be a BTO possibility! :)

it would be nice if Eric were to stop by & share his
thoughts on some of the guitars he has at his shop -
there aren't any sound clips that i can find & that
adirondack/ovangkol GS looks very interesting ;)

Welcome, Strumming Fool.

You have a great list of guitars there! I'd love to see some pix of them - especially your BTO with the sinker top. Hope you post some soon for us to drool over :D

Wow! Your BTO with the nicely striped Sinker is flatout incredible! Thanks so much for the nice photo :)
Here's a full frontal!

At Martin Music, I was able to hear sinker redwood on a number of GAs and GSs (both Taylor and R Taylor). Here's a quick review, and please keep in mind that it's all a matter of personal preference and the specific guitar played at the time:

1.Madagascar Rosewood: Fabulous, rich piano-like tone - beautiful balance. I played both R.Taylor and Taylor GS shapes. The R.Taylor was stunning, but the Taylor was less than inspiring.
2.Indian rosewood: a bit too dark, and somewhat muted (but I'm not a big rosewood fan to begin with). Two Taylor GAs, that both sounded sweet and resonant
3.Mahogany: mellow, but a bit too thin-sounding - a Taylor GA
4.Ovangkol: that perfect blend of bass, mids and highs - very complete tone! Two Taylors - one GS with an Adi top and a GA with a sinker top. While it was close, I preferred the sound of the sinker - wasn't as "dry" as the Adi, and had a bit more lushness to it.
All this "research" led to my choice of ovangkol as my personal best. Hope this helps!

My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

That Adi-topped GS is very nice indeed. I just preferred a sinker/ovangkol GA that Eric had at the time, which led me to my BTO choices. However, I'm surprised that that guitar is still there. I wonder if most people don't even try that guitar because it's "lowly" ovangkol. It's one of the best GSs I've ever played, and I'm not a GS fan. By the way, thanks to Josh for giving us Taylor-lovers a new playground!
