My first songs were from groups from Spain from the 60's and 70's since that's what the guy that taught me use to play.

The first song I figured out on my own was It don't come easy by Ringo Star.

When I was just messing around with the guitar as a kid, it was Lucky Man by ELP. When I picked it up again seriously, last summer, it was The  Long Ride Home - Patty Griffin.

It would be interesting to know the titles of the first few Spanish songs you learned. What were they?

This is one of the first ones my buddy got me to learn, Cuentame by Formula V. There were a lot  of these types of groups out of Spain, I think all of them wanted to look like the Beatles!

This one also was one of the first ones:

"This Time of Year" by Better Than Ezra.  That is still one of the fist things I tend to play when I first pick up a guitar, usually without even thinking about it.

I think I remember working on three over and over (and over and over and over).
Country Roads
Gentle On My Mind
Don't Think Twice, It's Alright
Thes songs seemed to use a good deal of open chord progressions.
First barre chord down the neck attempts was some Gordon Lightfoot and Neil Young stuff

This is really sad but it was Sister Christian a Night Ranger tune.   I still can play those single notes from memory.   I must have been about 13 then, now I am 39.

the video was actually shot outside & around the surrounding area of our rival high school & inside of Sam's restaurant -
i'd heard rumors about 'blind tiger' shooting a video back then (def leppard), but sure enough when it aired ...  :o

I have no idea.  That was back in the late 60s/early 70s (before the earth's crust had cooled . . .)
Likely candidates:
Something by the Beatles (probably "I saw her standing there")
Fire and Rain (James Taylor)
Leaving on a Jet Plane (PP&M)
A really poor rendition of some Simon & Garfunkel song (actually, I still do that today)
Teach Your Children (CSN)
House of the Rising Sun (Animals)
Ballad of John and Yoko
Something by Creedence

You get the drift.
