"Come As You Are" by Nirvana.  My first guitar teacher back in '96 was a HUGE Nirvana fan.  Power chords and a 2 finger riff... easy song.  I don't play the song much anymore, I'll still mindlessly play that main riff on a fairly regular basis.   :D

It was a very long time ago that I learned my first song, a very simple instrumental version of, Ghost Riders in the Sky.

I honestly don't remember but it was probably working out the chords for a fiddle tune to play along with my grandfather ... I am sure there were others but the first popular song I can remember working out was Neil Young's Heart of Gold ... because it was the first song I could play that the girls were most fond of ...  8)

Long since forgotten, but I think it was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Either that or From the Beginning by ELP :)

time of your life - green day

it was the only song my mom heard me play (on a rainsong ws1000),
as nearly everything else i wanted to try to play i got to within 99% of
it sounding 'right' & by then i was pretty much tired of playing them

serving with my church's worship team, starting a couple of months
after my mom was gone changed everything for me (not just playing)

it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

"Colors" in high school in 1970, you know, "yellow is the color of my true love's hair, in the morning...".  Just D, G, and A7 if I remember right, and Mr. Beard insisting on alternating the bass (thumb, strum, thumb, strum).  It think I also learned House of the Rising Sun at the same time (it was still the de facto beginners standard at the time).
