Lindsey Buckingham on Taylor 81x (?)
« on: February 16, 2012, 07:57:22 PM »
I'm teaching myself to play Landslide by Stevie Nicks because I love the way Lindey Buckingham plays the guitar and this is just a great acoustic guitar song. Anyway, I'm watching Youtube vidoe's of them in concert and it is obvious that he is playing a Taylor 800 series guitar in several of the live performances. To me it looks like an 816ce, possibly an 814ce. Judging by the white binding, it could also be a 700 series.

It's an 814ce.

The 816ce didn't exist when Taylor used that inlay on the 800 Series.

Also, if it was an 816ce, it would have Maple binding as opposed to the white plastic...
No one has ever been on their death-bed wishing they'd been more practical...

if one of the videos was shot in 97 & it's the same guitar in both, from the
body contours, relative to the pickguard, it would be either a 96 or 97 814c,
with the Fishman onboard pre-amp installed (or, it could be a 'proto 814ce)

in the amex video i can see the
progressive diamond fretmarkers & 3 ring ab rosette 0:11
fishman onboard pre-amp 3;39
gold Grover tuners 3:46

with the feedback buster in place, i can't verify if it is
a later 98 model (which had the label affixed to the back) &
his picking hand is covering the bridge so that the pinhole configuration
cannot be seen ('smiley' arc on 96-98 & possibly some 99 models)
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

I just love watching videos of him playing.

Me too. I think he's incredible. I saw him in October. A great perfomer as well as guitarist!

Watching the video kinda reminded me of how much I hate the first few generation pizeo pickups used back then. The quack kinda ruins it for me.

That said, I really admire Lindsays playing, love the thousand yard stare, not bothering to even glance at his left hand until the lead break at the end.

And, oh, I don't care if you are Stevie Nicks, keep your hands off my arms when I'm trying to rip a clean acoustic fingerstyle lead in front of a few thousand people . . . <g>
