The difference would depend on the year that the 814ce was made. The only difference I can think of of hand would be in the version of the Expression System that was installed. The newest version has one body sensor and one induction (magnetic) pickup with a preamplifier made with discrete components. The older version would have had two body sensors and an integrated circuit preamplifier. By asking the merchant for the serial number to the guitar whose model year isn't mentioned, you can call Taylor's customer service department and based on that serial number they can tell you exactly how it differs from the current model.

I'd be interested in the answer too. I have a 2010 814CE.

Thanks.    Bill (Shrewsbury, UK)

I just bought a 2011 serial marked 814ce and there is no difference. The ES, bracing, wood, trim and cosmetics are identical. Taylor did not change anything on the 800 series this year. There were many changes to other series but not the 800 or 900 series.

AMS sells a lot of Taylors. It would be unlikely that they have anything older than a 2011 model.

Considering that, there would be no difference between a 2011 model and a 2012 model. Nothing was changed...

Since we don't know the year one of the 814s was made we can't say with any certainty that there is no difference.

Like I said, AMS sells a lot of Taylors, and the 814ce has been the third most popular solid wood guitar Taylor makes for some time now. It would be surprising if AMS had anything older than a 2011 model...

i agree :)
from outward appearances the 07-12 814ce's look identical -
current 800 series ab/MOP fretmarkers, single ring ab rosette,
flamed maple binding (or curly/tiger stripe/fiddleback) & 9V ES
the 07-09 models have the 9V ES with 2 defeatable body sensors
the 07 & 08 models have the Standard II bracing,
the early 09 - later have CV bracing &
the early 10 - current have the 9V ES with discrete pre-amp & single body sensor ES
AMS sells a lot of Taylors. It would be unlikely that they have anything older than a 2011 model.

another member here purchased a brand new 09 814ce recently & i also know of other
large shops that have sold new guitars made considerably earlier than 07 (try 98-01),
so unless one is an employee for AMS, or has already contacted them, this is speculation

hi 1996AFG,
good to see you here :)
WELCOME !contacting AMS for the serial # or the first 7 digits will help determine the year model of the
2 814ce's & that will help you determine if there are differences in bracing patterns or electronics

hope you enjoy the place & please make yourself comfortable :D

Thanks for the info. My 814CE TSB just arrived, serial number says January 2012. What an instrument! Thanks americanmusical.com and anyone else responsible for the interest-free 12 monthly payments.
