Never spent much time with alt tunings but I saw a tab of "Little Martha" by ABB and give it a try.
A couple of very good lessons available on youtube. (Drop D capo 2nd fret becomes open E)

Picked it up in about 2 hours and decided to learn another ABB tune "Come and Go Blues"
I have played it in std tune generally it's played alt tune (Open G).
(Snark helps go to the tunings quickly)
Again a couple of great youtubes really help -- Can't seem to sing like Greg does.

My son gave me an autographed copy of "Cross to Bear" Gregs book for Fathers Day.
I just now started it and am enjoying the reading .

Learning some songs to play and sing... a lot of Grateful Dead tunes, currently Wharf Rat, Loser and Row Jimmy; some Neil Young tunes... Sugar Mountain, Old Man; and trying to get better with finger picking with Landslide and Dust in the Wind.

Started a new song yesterday, Mother Goose by Ian Anderson.  Fun song using a capo at the 5th fret.

I'm working on a bunch of O'Carolan's harp tunes.
Mostly own arrangements (16 at the moment), ecxept "Shebeg and Shemore" and "Carolan's Concerto" by Franco Morone and "Gerorge Brabazon 2nd Air" by Seth Austin.
Tunings are mostly  DADGAD and CGDGAD.

I've just about got the Hal Leonard version of Norwegian Wood down pat, so now I'm trying to learn the version as played by John Lennon on the recording of Rubber Soul.
That's gonna take awhile!

I always have a few in the pipeline at any one time. Right now it's Joe Washington's version of Yesterday for classical guitar, Ton Van Begeyck's version of Blake's Breakdown - those are in standard; Cunla in DADGAD.

Melissa - my current favorite strummer (and a blast for adding in little riffs in E Maj).  I like this instruction... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHp53FdgZ4g

Got inspired to learn Norwegian Wood from above posts.  This is a great thread.

I'm playing it without a pick and have it down fairly well but I mess up those notes during the verses often enough.  It'd good for practicing my fingerpicking and a great chance to use a capo.  During the Dm of the in the change ("she asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere.." etc) I find that alternating between Dm and Dsus2 sounds good.  For example...
Some sources I've seen just show it as:
Dm -> G; Dm -> Em7 -> A
But I like:
 Dm -> Dsus2 ->Dm -> Dsus2 -> G; Dm -> Dsus2 -> Dm -> Dsus2 -> Em7 -> A

During the G I also like alternate quickly to a G variant (add the C at the 2ndstring first fret) on the 3rd beat.  Not sure what that chord is and not sure if that chord is in the original, I'll have to listen again.

Rod Stuart - Maggie May - Trying to arrange a finger style beat through the verses. Great tune to try out an arrangement on as chords in verse are really easy (A, G, D) so can (try to) add some percussive chops to help the beat along  8)

After learning Greg Allman's "Come and Go Blues"  in open "G" I found that another favorite of
mine "Colorado Song" by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils is in open "G". It is a great guitar song and can be played solo or with others.

Additional OMD Favorites
"Spaceship Orion"
"Road to Glory"
"It Couldn't be Better"

      I spent a lot of time buying the original music books when the Southern Rock records were released. Not an "ear player" I would learn the easy songs and pass on the more difficult. Now I have a great selection of Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Lynyrd Skynyrd and other 70's music which is no longer in print or available in Tab. I have also "loaned" out music books that never returned I wish I still had.
     Overtime I have been able to tackle the more difficult songs (except some Allman Brothers which is pretty tough even with the sheet music). My band mates have asked I widen my music tastes which I am slowly doing.
      Today it is easy to go to the internet tabs (sometimes poor) or YouTube "lessons" to get better faster.
I also buy some of the song's I want from musicnotes.com

Just replaced my Garage TV with a "Smart" HD Vizio and the YouTube app is outstanding for lessons in 47".

From YouTube recently
"Half of My Heart - John Mayer (Boyce Avenue)
"Sail Away" - David Gray
"You Wreck Me" Tom Petty
