Promotion at work yields NGD x 2
« on: February 04, 2012, 07:08:42 PM »
So a couple days ago I was frequenting my home away from home known as my local guitar shop.  I've been eyeing the GS mini for a while.  Following a promotion at work and the wife's endorsement, I pulled the trigger.  Of all the things I like the most of this, the mobility tops the list.  I finally got my couch lap guitar.  I'm confident just having this at arms reach anywhere I am will improve my playing.

SO....then today, I take my daughter to her guitar lesson at the same shop.  If you recall, I got her a Squier strat and amp for Christmas.  While she was back learning, I was browsing the inventory and playing stuff, and talking to the guys.  The owners are brothers and really good dudes that always treat me right.  Knowing was already a 214 owner, one of guys mentions they took a trade-in of a 2007 214E-G from a fella that wanted a T5.  So, I took a play to it.  For being 5 years old, this thing is in pristine mint condition.  The frets have never seen playing.  Absolutely NOTHING wrong with it.  The pick guard still has the Elixir sticker on it.  The hard shell Taylor case is in just as superb condition.  Make a long story short, I now have another 214.

The only thing my wife says is "Well I guess you needed another one, huh?"  Yes...yes I did.

Thank you gents!

I really like the contrasting difference of rosewood vs ebony on the bridge and fretboard between the two.

Does the 214 really have a gloss top?  I don't believe Taylor started putting gloss tops on the 2XX models until 2009 or 2010.  It looks like a satin top 214e to me.

This 2007 does indeed have a gloss top.

I am sorry I don't understand, do you now own 2 Taylor 214's or just one.
Thanks, nice looking guitars.

Seems Taylor likes to change things up from time to time.  My 2009 214 has a satin top.

hi Chad,
just wondering if you might happen to have a pic around somewhere of the 2-214 tops side-by-side -
i would think that with the 07 having a mahogany neck with rosewood board & bridge & the 09 having
a sapele neck with ebony board & bridge, it might  contribute a little bit to their tonal contrasts, along
with the different characteristics of the tops, & possibly the finish, along with them being 2 different
guitars, although there may be a chance that the 09 might have more playing time on it than the 07
& i'm kind of curious if the 07 looks/feels significantly smoother (back, sides & neck) than the 09 ???

if i ventured to guess, i would probably  say the 07 might  have a slightly warmer tone &
the 09 might  be a bit bolder & a little more 'forward-projecting', not taking into account
any tonal difference the 09 scarfjoint headstock might have over the fingerjoint on the 07 ;)

congrats again on the 2 latest acquistions & your promo :D

btw, the 2012 models have a NuBone nut & saddle, like
the Mini, rather than Tusq, but that's another thread ...
play on ;D

it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...
