812ce Ordered!
« on: February 03, 2012, 07:53:48 PM »
After much research, reading lots of advice in this forum (and before, in the AGF), and playing some Taylors with various wood combinations,  I've ordered a 2012 812ce Grand Concert from L.A. Guitar Sales.  This will be all standard except I've ordered the optional western red cedar top, which on Taylor's price list is $X00 extra.

This guitar comes standard with India rosewood back and sides, curly maple binding, the newer CV bracing with relief rout, the beautiful 800 series "pearl" fretboard inlays, abalone dot bridge pins, abalone rosette, Taylor gold tuners etc. etc.   The curly maple binding runs around the body, of course, and also on the sides of the fretboard, and peghead.  It'll look great against the rosewood and cedar.  I decided to stick with the standard 1 3/4 nut width.

It was time for me to step up.   I haven't owned a real acoustic for a real long time.  It will take up to 8 weeks for my new guitar to arrive because it's an optional special order top (not a "BTO", though).

As others have reported here, my experience with Ted has been great, all on the phone. We both believe the rosewood/cedar combination is a great sound. I sent him my T5-S1 as a trade and received a fair value for it;  I also got a very good price on the new 812ce.  It'll be hard to wait for this guitar to arrive but I'll think I'll make it with group therapy from the UTGF members!

You're going to love how comfortable, easy-playing, and great-sounding that guitar is.  Great choice.

Congratulation Go Navy I think a cedar top over EIR on a 2012 Taylor GC will be a winner . . Will yours have a slotted head stock, or the standard peg head?  Nice little Taylor!

Congrats.  That will be a sweet guitar.  Nice and warm from the cedar and the CV bracing will give a strong bottom end.

Your is not too far away from my BTO.  I got a redwood top instead of cedar.

you won't believe how big it sounds with the ES plugged in, but with great string-to-string balance.

Mine will have the standard peg head.  The slotted head is an attractive idea, though.  Thanks for your comments!

Dennis....I see you know whereof you speak!  You have a coco/sinker 12 fret.......very sweet.  Thanks for the affirmation....much appreciated.

Thanks, CJD.  That's one factor that made me settle on the GC.....I am used to playing mostly plugged in and plan to continue that habit, for the most part.  We'll see where the new guitar leads me.  Redwood and rosewood....must be fantastic.   Thanks for your comments.

Is it a short scale?

Nope.....all standard on dimensions.  The only option will be the western red cedar top.  I've got long arms, 6 feet tall; I figured the standard scale will be fine and will fit me ok.  I played a 512ce and it sat real well with my ergonomics.

Great choice in my book. I love my 712 with a cedar top and rosewood B&S. As mentioned in other posts there is a lovely warmth to the sound but you still get a beautiful resonant and chiming guitar with fantastic overtones ..... I love it!

Congratulations! I ordered my 812C back in April (I received it in November) and it is such a joy to play. I swapped out my top for Engelmann so I can only imagine how rich yours with the cedar top will sound.

You're saying it took you seven months to get an 812?  Holy cow, you could have had three BTO's built in that time!

I got an estimate of 6 to 8 weeks on the 812ce I just ordered.....this due to the choice of the optional top.

Congratulations!!!! You'll love this guitar. I'm 6'2" and have no issues with the 12 fret so you should be fine there. I waited 12 weeks for a BTO I just got so you should be fine with the 8 weeks. Great wood combination!! Oh and nice choice on the standard peghead. I got that as a new 2012 option on the 12 fret. You'll really like it. Once again, congrats!!!!!
