Title: "Little" strings...
Post by: Captain Jim on January 16, 2013, 07:02:29 PM
We had to make a trip to "the big city" to get some service done on the truck.  Amazingly, it went well.  Since we were there and had some free time, we made a stop at Guitar Center.  According to the e-mails I've been getting from them, they seem to think I needed to add a ukulele to the mix.  My wife thought so, too.  I had never even held a ukulele until today.  I played (using that term very loosely) a bunch of them, and decided to take a baby step: I brought home a Lanikai (definitely an entry level)...

My wife wanted to make a stop at a craft store... I waited in the truck... and got the uke out.  I was able to play "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for her a few minutes later.  Certainly not ready for "prime time," but it was kinda fun... in a "plinky-plink" sorta way.  ;)

No, I don't plan to let it take time away from the "real" strings...

Not a bad day.

Best wishes,
Captain Jim

Very nice Captain Jim.  Your wife is a real keeper.  Mine won't let me have but two at one time!

NGD is still a NGD, even with little ones with little strings.  I love listening to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole pay his Uke.  he does a great rendition of Over the Rainbow.

I play that one on guitar.  That rendition is very moving.

Hi CJ, congrats on your NUD!!  Welcome to the world of UAS, I have 3 ukes and waiting for a custom later this year.  Check out the Epiphone Les Paul ukes - so much fun!!  Have you discovered Ukulele Underground yet?

Yes, I did poke around on UU before getting one.  As it is, my wife calls it "your computer work" when I sign on and check my favorite sites (boats, RVs, and guitars)... good thing I'm retired... I don't know how I ever had the time to work.  ;)

I did get some ukelele time in this morning before exercising a couple of the guitars.  8)

Best wishes,
Jim
