Title: Hello from Central CT
Post by: gfowler on October 31, 2020, 12:56:27 PM
Hi folks! Newbie to the forum (and to Taylor guitars). Recently purchased an all-black 214-CE 12-string and am quite pleased with it. Other guitars include Gibson Les Paul and ES-335, Fender American Prof. Strat, Squire Strat, Martin Custom D. Most likely will be adding another acoustic electric (6-string) in the near future and am considering different Taylor models -- possibly the sister of the 214-CE or maybe something from the 300 or 400 series (don't want it to be so nice it becomes a closet queen). Love to hear suggestions. Mainly a picker, but do some finger style. Play rock, blues and some praise music with a contemporary worship group.
Cheers!

Welcome gfowler. You've come to the right place, if you're looking for a new Taylor. There are a bunch of enablers here.  ;)

Welcome sir!

Glad you could join us! If you like the size, shape and sound of your 214, I would recommend the 324. Its mahogany top with blackwood back and sides yields a beautiful, unique tone that behaves well in ensemble settings. Really nice visual aesthetics, regardless of whether you choose the 324 ce or the 324. Try one out. I think you'll be impressed!

Thanks for the welcomes! A 324? Think I'll have to play one and see how it fits. Thanks for the advice! :)

Sorry, the 324 just didn't do it for me -- too dark of a sound. What did it for me is the 414CE V-Class. Looked the part, sounded the part, was the part. Picked it up on Sunday and played and recorded parts for an on-line contemporary worship -- man oh man, did I receive complements on how the 414 sounded. Will have to go to my favorite luthier at some point, but this it a 10.5 guitar out of the chute on a 10.0 scale!
Cheers!

Congratulations on your 414ce. Sounds like you found the right one. Pictures?

Very cool - congratulations! The 414 is been a staple for so many working musicians, because - well- it consistently sounds great. I've never played a bad one. I love the tonal properties of ovangkol. It's probably the most underrated tonewood out there. Enjoy your new addition, and play it in good health!
