Is this for real?

I didn't think Taylor did 'customs' or different woods on the entry-level models... Was it an older limited edition...?

There is an answered question on there now that says it was built 1/12/2012. I've never seen one of these. Didn't find anything in a Google search. I'll bet somebody here knows.

Ask the question vof the seller via eBay to get the full serial number. Then call Taylor on Monday. Oh wait - they are probably closed for the holidays. I cannot say for certain that it wasn't an LTD edition, but not sure. If so it would be listed under "LTD's" on the Taylor web site.
For a 2012 vintage it would certainly be laminated wood -- walnut veneer. The last of the solid wood 200's was made in 2006 if I recall correctly.

Better yet, ask for a clear photo of the label inside. I question a 200 Series Custom too.

I can't find anything on the website. But I do believe it is real. At least with laminate back and sides. Seem to remember there was an unannounced 200 series limited. Want to say it was for the independent shops that carried Taylor, but that could be wrong.
But yes, it would have laminate back/sides at that time.

Yeah, thought about calling Taylor on it -- or asking the seller for more photos/information -- but I'm not keen on purchasing the guitar. Mainly, I was just curious since I'd never encountered a Walnut 200 -- laminated or otherwise.
Like others since, I didn't find anything on the Taylor web site when I looked last night. Which is what prompted me to post this thread. Sounds like it's a bit of a mystery to 'most everyone else too...
Or maybe it's one of those Chinese 'Taylors' (http://www.unofficialtaylorguitarforum.com/index.php?topic=5874.0)...? :-\

i don't believe this is walnut, but if it is, it is the most eirw looking walnut i've ever seen :-\

to me, the side veneer appears to be rotary cut (sliced)

You know, I was thinking the same thing today, particularly when looking at the back: maybe it's not Walnut, but Rosewood...? If the wood was cut differently for the sides, that would explain a lot.

I think the serial number and a call to Taylor is the only way to find out for sure. Anyone want to do that? IF the seller will even give the serial number.

I'll contact the seller and see if he'll provide it. Stay tuned...

i'm pretty sure the folks at Taylor are on winter break until monday
january 5th, but there is a chat feature/pop-up window on their site
tim, i've seen 100 & 200 series prototypes with maple & koa here & there
(some with solid sides, veneer back), but from the pics my $'s on eirw ;)
happy holidays, all :)

Well, so far it's a moot point; the seller doesn't seem to want to respond to my inquiry about the serial number... But I suspect you're correct about the wood.
