That's a serious response from the mothership ...never read that before.  Who knows how much of it is about "tone" or "performance" as I have grown skeptical of "ad copy" responses.  That said, if it's an economic decision that makes sense, more power to em!

Fwiw, I like D'Addario as a company, and have used their electric strings for decades as they sound good and perform well.  And particularly, their 3 and 10 packs are great deals that make good strings even better.  But I stick with Elixir PBs for acoustic use because they work well and laaaast; and they sound good to the last drop of their life which is critical to me (no sense in having longevity if the tone degrades!).  They also have a medium-light set which works great on GC and GA bodies, so that's a gauge I live by.

Like many things with instruments, strings are highly subjective and have everything to do with personal preferences.  Having so many choices these days really makes it great.  Rock on, all! :)

There is one hole in the D'Addario catalog.

Some years ago I found I liked using the HD Light gauge sets of strings {.013 - .053} on many of my six string guitars. Gave a little pop to the trebles and reduced the boomy bass of my Jumboes/Grand Orchestra. Especially in the spruce over rosewood models. Jumboes tend to have a balanced sound, and that gauge can help a lot.

Any chance D'Addario will be making that gauge in the future?

Be well and play well,

Don

I like the Elixir HD Lights a LOT.  I find the DaD XS mediums very similar, as they do have a bit less tension on the big strings.  Perhaps give them a shot if you haven’t yet.
And, elixir still sells the HDs last time I checked

Happy picking

Maybe not ideal, but you could buy a 10-pack each of mediums (EJ17) and lights (EJ16) then mix & match your own homemade HD lights.  You'll end up with ten sets of "bluegrass" gauge strings, ie:  medium basses and lighter trebles.  Then have your nearest bluegrass buddy buy those ten hybrid sets from you.  Agreed that it would be best if they had your preferred set(s) in the catalog, though.

Why ask here? You know who can tell you (perhaps, but at least you'll get a more authoritative answer)? These guys: https://support.daddario.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
