Well it was kind of (hopefully) inevitable that there would be a bunch of copy cat family snapshots.
So giving credit to Strumming Fool we'll start off with his impressive family.

i'm starting to feel we should make a sticky thread, in watch forums, they have a "state of the collection" thread that shows only watches
ill shoot a note to the other mods to see what they think

I don't own enough guitar stands. :(
Maybe I will have to get creative.

Very pretty family Craig - thanks for getting this started!

timfitz63, I'd like to see your guitar family picture. :o

timfitz63, I'd like to see your guitar family picture. :o
I'd like to oblige you, Susie. But I'm not currently in a position to snap a photo of the group, being as how we're roughly 1,000 miles apart at the moment... Plus I'm not sure I have a lens with a wide enough field-of-view to put them all together in one shot... And I definitely don't have enough guitar stands...
If I had a fancy graphics program on my computer, I could potentially cobble together individual photos into a "family" shot... Or just post a bunch of individual shots in this thread... But that sort-of defeats the purpose of a "family" shot... :-\
Ultimately, it might have to wait until the next time I'm back in Texas with some time to spare...

If you are ever able, it would be impressive to see. ;)

Maybe one of these days. I have one of my dulcimers, will that do?

I think the bigger issue is how you will hire a helicopter to do an aerial shot. You've got an impressive arsenal that will be tough to fit in a cellphone lens. :)

Frankly, getting an aerial shot would be the least of my logistical problems, given that I have a pilot's certificate and a Piper "Cherokee" -- and I'm not afraid to use either of them... ;) Plus the test program on which I'm currently working is for a helicopter...
But yeah a cell phone lens isn't going to cut it... I do have a "fish-eye" lens for my old film-based SLR; that would get all of them into one shot, but it'll look like it's from a mile away... Based on the other "family" photos posted so far, I'd say 8-10 guitars are probably the limit of what can be usefully displayed in one photo -- and I only have five guitar stands. That alone means I'd have to stage multiple photos...
Whew! Sounds like a week of Sundays to get it organized and executed...! It would probably be simpler if folks just dropped by for a visit -- when I'm there, of course -- which is almost never these days... :-\

It's all part of my cunning plot to stop you lot playing so I can catch up a bit ;D

OK, lazy Sat morning (and oddly rainy day in SoCal), so snapped a few off the ol' iphone. The herd I am so fortunate to have acquired over the decades (and yes, I tell myself I'm done!).
No back shots, but the Macassar on the 616ltd is beautiful (the top uniform, reflections look like figuring but it's not). And the quilted maple on the RT-2 is stunning, IMHO, with coco binding all the way up the headstock.

The flamed maple and honey-burst fin on the 12 is likewise breathtaking to my eyes. And that's green paua and rw binding/soundhole on the DN.

This strat has been through much with me :) and the one on the left is my personal build of a BCRich (I built her from lumber :) )

Quite a collection Edward! Thanks for a peek into your music room!
-
Craig, a beautiful family!
-
That's a great collection, Edward! Looks like you've got all of the bases covered. In addition to your R. Taylor 12-string, your Les Paul Goldtop caught my eye; what year is it?
-
Hey Tim
Thank you sir!! That GT is an 07 R4...love it! My LPC had gotten lots of play before I discovered this R4 and it has since stepped in as the go-to guit, along with the red strat. P90s and wraptail goodness!!!! :)

Very cool! A few years back I stumbled onto an all-original 1973 Goldtop in very good/excellent condition; I'm pretty happy with it, as you might imagine.
Today I had the opportunity to play one of the Collector's Choice Les Pauls (#5 "Donna" (http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2015/Custom/CC-5-Tom-Wittrock-1959-Les-Paul-Donna.aspx)), which as you probably know is an exacting reproduction of a particular vintage Gibson Les Paul, in this case a 1959 model. Very impressive-sounding electric guitar!
Craig: didn't mean to overlook your collection! Your Custom GS in Mun Ebony is a real jewel!

After seeing some of the incredibly impressive collections of guitars earlier in this thread, I am almost embarrassed to share this photo of my modest little family. They ain't much, but they are mine.

^^^Cool guits, man! Not to mention your tele could be my strat's fraternal twin! :)
There's no "keeping up with Jones'" here ...we're all just sharing the love! Suffice it to say we're all uber-fortunate to be able to share such beautiful "family" pics! :)
So Tim,
an all-orig 73GT, eh? ...pics man, pics! :)
Yeah, those Gibson CCs are pretty amazing, to be sure!
Edward
-
Christhee68, I don't see this as a comparison thread at all, but rather a thread to show how happy one is with their guitar or guitars. Your family is just as important and impressive as the others, like you said, because they are yours. They all make music and that's what we are all trying to do. Nice fam! Thanks for sharing.
-
I agree Suzie-
A picture's worth a thousand words. I'm really enjoying the sight of everyone's collection, because each combination is unique. Loving it all!

Yed very nice SoCal, what are those fist hangers you've got there?

Thanks so much, everybody!

Craig
I purchased the hand wall hangers from amazon because they looked cool and because the bolt to secure them to the wall was much more solid than the common guitar wall hangers. However, I have since moved on to Hercules wall hangers for the bottom two guitars and I like them much, much better. They are easier to remove and return the guitar and also have a sliding lock system that wraps around the neck automatically when then guitar is hunh (I live in earthquake country!).

Indeed, great shots and sharing, guys! Keep em coning! :)

Thanks! It's actually Adirondack Spruce, and the headstock and rosette is cocobolo. It was a custom build that I bought through Shoreline Music.

Really fun looking at these, thanks everyone! I'll get around to taking a photo or two before too long I hope.

All beauties indeed. I would love to get my fingers on that 522 12-f and give it a walk around the block or err.... something along those lines. :o
Anyway, nice family photo.

Nice Pictures everyone....no envy here ;)
Here's my small family, (not pictured is my c1988 fender squire bullet that is still damaged from the 94 Northridge earthquake).
My Yamaha SG1500 was bought while I lived in Okinawa. Relatively hard to find but the playability and tone is on par with a les paul...plus I love the push push pot's that give me the wide range of tones.
My Washburn HB-35 was given to me as my 21st birthday gift, well made ES-335 copy and last year of Japanese production.
My Taylor is the new addition and my first acoustic guitar... love the tone and feel, cant wait to get another of a different series at some point!
-
Wow...what beautiful guitars in this thread! Functional works of art!
Here's my humble guitar family - it was fun to get the kids together for a photo :P
Left to right:
1996 Fender DG-30-12 Sitka/Mahogany laminate
2009 Taylor 110e - Sitka/Sapele laminate
2013 Taylor PS56ce - Sitka/Cocobolo
2013 Taylor 816ce - Sitka/EIR
1975 Gibson L6 Midnight Special - maple
Although the Gibson is a wonderful electric, I get the most enjoyment from acoustic playing so that guitar sits in the closet. The Fender 12-string sits right next to the Gibson and has been dormant since the cocobolo 12-string arrived. It will either be given to my son or eventually sold. Both my son and I take the 110e to weekly guitar lessons. The 816ce is what I play at home occasionally and whenever I jam out with my friends. The PS56ce is played regularly (and often) in my house. I play it as much as I can (maybe 95% of the time) - it is my favorite and I can't get enough of it! ;D

I was doing some comparisons, because my cedar 914 CE just got a new set of elixir PB lights, and so did a custom GA sinker that I am in the process of selling.
was asked by instigator michaelw (my buddy) to take a quad photo..so here it is in its iphone 7 plus photo glory
there are in no particular order, but wanted the sitka ones next to each other to show how golden it gets over time
top to bottom:
2016 custom GC 12 fret - sitka/eir
2010 414ce - sitka/ovangkol
2014 custom GA - sinker redwood/eir
2011 914ce - cedar/eir
soon to be pictured 2017 custom GC 12 fret - lutz/cocobolo

I notice your bto gc is a 12-fret with a standard headstock -- can you comment on any feel/tension differences compared to a slotted headstock 12-fret?
-
Zeebow, why are you selling the sinker?
-
Zeebow, that collection is awesome! We have very similar tastes in guitars. Love the redwood top-- I don't think I've ever seen a sinker redwood with a cutaway.

i don't have a good a/b bc i haven't touched a slot head 12 fret in a long time.
the string tension between my GC and GA feel similar but i notice the short scale and small body. i notice that more than the tension difference more than i did the string tension the slot head..but i wasn't really paying attention
i just remember picking up the slot head 12 fret and thinking, this is comfortable but i hate slot heads, so that's what led me to the custom route (twice haha)
-
Zeebow, why are you selling the sinker?
i sold it to fund my first custom gc 12 fret. it's not that much different tonally than my 414ce.
had the nut and saddle replaced with bone nut and micarta saddle last week to fix a setup issue, but it's no where near as dark and sweet as my cedar 914..it sounds like my 414ce with extra range, more sensitivity - which is a good thing, but not different enough to keep. my 414 has a ton of sentimental value, but if it didn't i would have sold the 414
i was trying to keep the stable to 3 guitars, even bought a rack that holds 3...then michaelw helped persuade me with my latest custom. i plan to cap out at 4!
-
Very cool shot, zee! Love that 914. Beautiful family indeed. Thanks for sharing!
thanks! love your collection too! ill try to get the backs when i have some time

sure seems that way! the sinker isn't technically mine anymore :)
