Title: Hello from upstate NY
Post by: Moosedog on December 15, 2014, 10:21:22 PM
The Finger Lakes area to be more exact.  Taylor player since 1999 when I bought a 312ce.  Been through many Taylors since and currently blessed with a 2014 714ce LTD Sassafras, a 2012 712e 12fret, a 2008 T5-S and a 2004 712E.  I am a part time professional player and gig out 100+ times per year in solo, duo, trio and full band configurations.  Other equipment includes an Ultrasound amp, Mackie unpowered mixer and QSC-12 powered speakers.  I sometimes use a Roland GR-20 guitar synth with a Roland K-3 pickup and/or a Line 6 POD 2.0 with the T-5.

I should mention that I only play Taylor guitars at this point.  For me, they offer the best package of sound, build quality, playability, electronics and consistency of any other guitars available.  I strum, fingerpick and flatpick and they hold up to all.  There are many other fine guitars made but none offer the whole package like Taylor.

I look forward to being a contributing member of the forum and learning from the vast knowledge contained herein.

Welcome Moosedog, looks like we will be learning from you on some things. Hope you stick around. I agree with your comments on being an exclusive Taylor owner. I am too, for the same reasons.

Welcome to the forum.  Which is your favorite winery up there? Must be nice to sip and strum all the time.

Ha!  Out of the literally hundreds of winery's in the Finger Lakes area it is hard to pick a favorite.  Traleven, Bully Hill and Herron Hill are at the top of the list.  We are also seeing a lot of micro brewery's popping up and that speaks to me a bit more.  They are all fun to play at and it's a nice break from the bar scene.

Welcome Moosedog from a fellow New Yorker (Brewster, Patterson, Long Island), now living in Tennessee. Our other commonality is we both play only Taylors these days. Enjoy your stay!

Wow Strumming Fool, you have some very interesting guitars.  I remember the Cujo guitars and that Stephen King received the very first one made.  I believe at the time he was playing in a pick up band for fun and specifically liked walnut acoustics.

Mgap, the sassafras is incredible.  Perfect balance with excellent low end.  The wood is just beautiful and almost 3D with the gloss finish.  Not quite as focused as Maple but more than rosewood.  A nice compliment to my rosewood guitars.  Play one if you can.
