714ce In Melbourne Australia - happy guitarist.

Welcome. You and your Taylor seem to be Happy Together. The 714 has always been one of my favorite Taylor models-- great tone and so retro.

G'day, Gordo! I had the opportunity to visit Melbourne (or "Mel-bin," as you Aussies pronounce it) some years ago. It struck me as a very cosmopolitan city!
-
Sure is, and the best thing is that the place is one big restaurant. You should re-visit as your $ is strong and our dollar has around the same value as Monopoly money.

Would love to come back for a visit. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be in the cards for the foreseeable future... :(
I guess it's all relative, but I'm not sure our dollar isn't all that far from the value of Monopoly money either... :o

timfitz63 - where are you in the USA?

Well, that often depends on what day you ask... I'm currently working in Lexington, Kentucky. But in little more than a week, I'll be headed to Huntsville, Alabama for four months, then to Buena Vista, Colorado for two; following which I'll probably be back in Lexington for a couple more months.
But technically, I'm a resident of San Antonio, Texas; so I'll return there after the second go-around in Lexington. And I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, so I'm frequently back there as well...
In short, I'm a nomad... :-\

Is that why you guys eat so much vegemite? I had my exposure to vegemite up in Cookstown. Once was enough. I prefer the beets and pineapple you guys put on cheeseburgers(outstanding burger I had in a roadhouse in the F.N.Queensland outback.)

Ooh, yeah... Vegemite... I tried that when I was in Oz, in traditional fashion (on toast for breakfast)... Brushing my teeth -- hours later -- couldn't even get the taste out of my mouth... :o At least one of the kindly Aussies I was working with had warned me to spread it very thinly on the toast...
But cheeseburgers with "the lot" (beetroot and a fried egg) were great! Lots of fresh seafood too -- but I was thrown by the Aussie terminology for some of it when I first got there! "Bugs" (shrimp) didn't sound very appetizing... ??? And I initially experienced some confusion about getting a proper American milkshake; turns out I had to start asking for a "thick shake."

Don't forget the bacon on that burger with the lot and, if you are North of Brisbane, I believe a slice of pineapple may be compulsory. I am very impressed that you liked the beetroot.
Vegemite is Australia's revenge on the rest of the world (except New Zealand). We have to do something with it as its a by-product of making beer.

I thought inebriation was a byproduct of making beer.

Oh, that's right! It was a bacon cheeseburger with the lot!
The best description I've produced to describe Vegemite to people who are unfamiliar with it is "beer sludge." ;)

First night in OZ went to dfinner and ordered an "Aussie plate" featuring 4 local faves. The crocodile meat was definitely tastier than the kangaroo.

Kangaroo reminded me of venison; didn't get the chance to try crocodile.

Crocodile is good grilled on the BBQ and it is superb in a Thai style curry. I used to get it free (and legally) when I lived in Darwin. My neighbour was doing some work on a crocodile farm.
