Well thank you very much, Zeebow. Much appreciated!  I'm really pleased with the sound.  And it can only get better. Cedar was the right choice for me.  Currently I'm playing it through a Phil Jones amp and experimenting with the balanced output through the A channel vs. a "normal" guitar cable through the B channel.  I can't hear a difference, but it could be that Phil Jones sets up the A channel for vocals (even though both channels have EQ).  I might end up calling them to find out.

yea I messed with both balanced and unbalanced outputs and haven't noticed much of a difference

been playing it mostly pure acoustically tho

one thing that i can't explain, is that my cedar 914ce sounds softer, as in volume wise, than other taylors.

Cedar/Mahogany projects much better (louder/ clearer/ less overtones) than Cedar/Rosewood. I had many direct comparisons of 514s and 714s, and the hog always projected better.

my friend loved the 614ce, i wanted to put earplugs in.

i'm always confused about the lure of koa - it just doesn't sound that great to me, but i have never heard one that has been opened up. but i'll never tell someone they shouldn't buy koa, i would only suggest they play it until they find the sound they're after.

I'm just now reading this thread since coming to it from a different "cedar top?" thread.  I had to say, though Zeebow, that you really hit the nail on the head twice with these two comments (see above).
1. 1997 414ce (Sitka/African Mahogany, pinless bridge, satin finish)
2. 2007 Baby (BT1)
3. 2002 Fender CIJ Telecaster w/ Bigsby & Mastery Bridge
4. 2012 Builder's Reserve VII (12 fret Hog)
