Weird buzz
« on: November 07, 2018, 01:44:12 PM »
i have a new 224ce k dlx and the es2 is finicky to get sounding right without the honky out of phase sound. i have it close, it sounds great playing softly but when i dig in it gets a little noticeable... dont really wanna buy a DI. i feel like it should sound great without external EQ. i mean it was 1500.

which leads to my next issue...

when i dig in, the G string reverberates like "wwuuaaaooong" idk how else to describe it. the action isnt low and the nut is cut right and the frets are level. it happens no matter what fret im playing on. only the g string.

it sounds as if its hitting one of the other frets im guessing but the action is NOT low. maybe my relief is too straight? please help.

My 2 cents, hopefully it's NOT a sympathetic vibration. I had an Epi Casino hollowbody electric that had a really annoying sound, after an hour or two trying different things we discovered it was a tuning knob. Touch o' super glue solved it! That type of thing will drive you nuts.

I would try loosening the ES2 sensor hex screw behind and between the G and D string ever so slightly (1/16th turn at a time?)...this will reduce the gain and may cure the misbehaving G string  ;)

p.s. I'm assuming you are talking about the ES2 sound plugged in to an AMP...

Have you tried different strings?
Also try holding the other strings down while you get the G doing its thing to see if it is (as lefty suggested) sympathetic vibrations.
And finally is it sitting right on the saddle?

Maybe similar issue to mine.

I simply removed wires from the inner body. No more buzz!

I had a buzz that was the control board for the ES buzzing on a D note, tough to find, easy fix that Taylor covered.

Years ago, I had a weird buzz that turned out to be a loose cable rattling against a brace.  I used a small 1" cube of foam, sliced open to allow the wire to slide into the cube, and attached it using double stick tape.  It held the wire nicely off the surfaces, preventing contact.

Intermittent buzzes and tones are the worst to troubleshoot.   :-[
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
