Flaggerphil actually checks in...
« on: January 23, 2012, 02:53:47 PM »
Hi

While I've been here since inception and have been a long-time member of the AGF, I've yet to actually "introduce" myself.  So...here goes.

I've been playing guitar off and on since my parents bought me a Gibson LG0 on my 14th birthday in 1964.  There was a period in the '80s when I stopped playing...lack of time due to new marriage, new job, kids, etc, etc, etc.  Started again when my son found an old Yamaha beater that had been in the basement for years and asked why I didn't play any more.  When I told him I didn't have enough time, he said, "You do now..."  and he was right.  Discovered Taylor guitars shortly after and, though I've owned other brands, too (Gibson, Larrivee, Breedlove, Rainsong, CA, Epiphone, Takamine, etc) I've pretty much decided to stay with Bob's designs.  I'm primarily a strummer and enjoy mostly playing 60's-70's rock and some folk music.  I rarely play in public any more, but do upon occasion.

I currently live in the St Louis area but have recently retired (I'm 61) and am in the process of moving back down to the Florida Space Coast.  My other interests are motorsports (I'm the starter...that's flagman to you NASCAR weenies...for the Formula 2000 Championship Series, F1600 Formula F Championship Series and Formula Atlantic Championship Series pro auto racing series').  I also sometimes work as a starter for SCCA Club Racing and may expand that more when I get down to Florida full time.  My other pass times are motorcycling (I have a Yamaha V-Star 1300 and a Suzuki Boulevard M50), riding with the Patriot Guard, reading, and taking cruises with my wife.

There ya go...that's probably way more than you ever wanted to hear about me...

 ;)

I've enjoyed your posts, Phil. :) You own several different size Taylors...which style/size Taylor body would you say is your favorite if you had to pick one?

Cindy, I much prefer the GS body style.  I used to go for the dreads, but IMHO the GS sounds every bit as good, if not better, than a dread and is easier to hold and play.  I think Taylor hit it out of the park with that design.

Well Welcome Phil!!!!  ;)

I love reading your posts as well!  Glad to have ya here!  If you're moving down to FL I doubt that you'll have room to take your T5 so feel free to ship it to me and it'll free up some moving space for ya...  ;)

Hi Phil,

If during your move you are going to find yourself in the middle of Georgia (Macon area, along I-75 perhaps), let me know. I'm only about half an hour from there. I'd love to meet you in person. I'll even buy you a cup of coffee! :)

Good luck with the retirement thing - enjoy!

I hope we get to cross paths before you get out of The Lou!  What's funny is that I was born in the same neck of the woods to which you're moving.  :-)

Like you, I love the GS body as well.  For me, that's been the sweet spot!
