Songs in Open E tuning ?
« on: May 21, 2018, 11:38:55 AM »
I am learning  "She Talks to Angels" by the Black Crowes in Open E tuning. I think this tuning  is used lot in Blues songs and slide guitar.  I was wondering if anyone has any songs in this tuning that they like to play. The other one I've started is The Rolling Stones "You Cant Always Get What You Want "... open E capo'd  at the 8th fret.

I play Van Morrison's Into the Mystic in open D (D-A-D-F#-A-D) tuning, which I find more appealing than open E.  You can always capo at 2 to get the equivalent of open E.

I don't actually use Open E tuning.  I play a few tunes in Open D, but capo up to get E tones when needed.  Since I mostly use medium gauge strings, tuning up to E is a bit too taut for my taste.  That third "G" string often breaks at that tension, IME.  But I certainly see the appeal.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Yes, after reading the comments I  switched my tuning  from Open E to Open D, helps with the fingering and the vocals, too. Also , an easy switch to DADGAD as I am trying to re-learn "I Can Only Imagine " by Mercy Me after seeing the movie.
