Your string of choice?
« on: December 08, 2011, 03:57:25 PM »
What strings do most of you use on you Taylor?  I have to admit that I don't stray too far away from Elixir nanowebs, but I have been experimenting with some D'Addario EJ16 PB lights, which I'm liking alot.

What about the rest of you guys?

I've strayed away from the Elixirs, but always come back.
Since my Taylors are both small bodied GC's I prefer the Elixir 80/20 Custom Lights.

I like Elixir Nano's on my smaller bodied guitars, like my 614ce and my Larrivee L.

I use John Pearse Silk wound Phosphor Bronze Med-Lights on my 710 and 510.  They are awesome strings, and love them on a dread.  I don't seem to lose any tone with them vs mediums. Here is a bit more about them if anyone wants to check them out.

I use DR Rares on my 814, and the bottom end just leaps out of the guitar.  Fabulous strings.

I've tried Cleartone, d'Arddarios, but just went back to using elixir nanos.
Not necessarily because of sound but because I play about 3 times a week (1hr per session) I need strings that last.

John Pearse.  Gauge and material (PB or 80/20) is determined by the guitar.  When I'm deciding what strings an individual guitar likes, I use Webstrings.  They sound ok but don't last long.

I have never found a coated string that I like the sound of.

OK, so here it is, on a brand-spankin-new forum ...the "what's yer favorite string" thread.  I guess everyone's gotta have that one.  Hopefully, years from now we'll have seen this kind of thread so often we'll be requesting a new sub-forum for it...
 ;D  ;D  ;D
Sorry, just couldn't resist.   Please no one report me ...I like it here  :)

Oh, and to the point: elixir nano PBs.  Either the mediums or the medium-lights depending on the guitar.  Good tone, but more so for the longevity and conssitency over time.

I have Elixir PB's on all my guitars.  Not sure what's on the mandolin...it was strung by my Dad before he passed on.

My GSLJ (~610) was strung with D'addario EXP's when I bought it.
I have since tried the Polyweb medium's, I didn't like them, I thought the coating was so thick it took away some of the tactile feedback.
Right now I've got the Nano PB's on, also mediums, I like them better than the poly's.
Deep resounding bass, bell-like highs.

Other day I was in a little mom'n'pop and picked up a set of JP medium PB's, probably will string those up in a while, my Nano's still sound good right now.

I use Elixirs.  I like the Nanoweb 80/20s on my 816ce (mediums) and 714ce (lights).  On my GS Mini, I prefer the Nanoweb PBs in medium gauge.

I use the Elixir 80/20s light gauge for my GA's. I tried the Polywebs which warmed up the tone too much plus over time the coating started to pill. Those reminded me of ladies stockings with the coating going over the surface of the strings. I also tried the Elixir Phosphor Bronze strings, but they were stiffer and thus almost seemed like a slightly larger gauge. The tone warmed up quite a bit and the volume increased some, but I prefer the 80/20s.

I have heard a lot of people say they thin they PB's feel stiffer than the 80/20's.  I have never used 80/20's but I might just have to break down and try a t set.  Did you ever have any on the 614ce before you sold it?  If so, what were your thoughts?
