How do I clean my gig bag?
« on: May 16, 2018, 06:59:46 PM »
Hello all,

I live in NYC and I took my GS Mini to work. Unfortunately the top of the gig bag rubbed up against the top of the subway door and got some grease on it. The bag is otherwise spotless. How can I get the black streaks out of my back?

Thanks!

I'd just start with some mild soap (say dish detergent) and water on a rag; ramp it up to laundry detergent if you need something with a bit more grease-cutting capability.  I'd avoid anything that's too caustic or chemical-based, or containing bleaches.

For grease and cleaning in general, I would use Dawn dish washing detergent diluted with some water and an old toothbrush for scrubbing.  Then a clean wet towel to blot out the detergent multiple times.  (Dawn is used to safely clean birds and other wildlife when there are oil spills).  I would not hold out much hope of getting it all out, leaving no evidence at all.

FWIW, I have used Simple Green on a bunch of stuff, sometimes fabric/nylon roller bags, camera bags, suitcases and briefcases, and always worked well and never damaged anything.

One other thing to try is Goop.  It is a white paste-like cleaner that comes in a white plastic tub.  It is meant to be a hand cleaner, but does a great job of getting grease out of clothing.  I have used it for years.  I find it in the automotive section of Wallymart.  It takes all kinds of stains out.
