Your next Guitar
« on: January 20, 2012, 03:27:51 PM »
What will you buy next time GAS strikes?

I notice that alot of players who own multiple guitars have many (or all) of the same brand. I subscribe to owning guitars of different brands. My next will likely be either a Martin or another Guild, possibly a Gibson. I want one with a wider nut for fingerstyle playing and I would like one made from mahogany or maybe cedar.

I have been looking seriously at one of the new nylon Taylor's.  Thinking about the 514c in nylon without the electronics.

Two are in my sights.

1) GS Mini Mahogany

2) Another Eastman if they introduce a mahogany/cedar OM.

Mine will be a GS8e-12.  I plan on ordering it within the next week or so.

Thinkin' about going smaller and to round out my guitars for music styles. Looking at SCGC oo or om in mahogany. Got the pretty fingerstyle and contemporary bases covered already.

I've got a Fairbanks F-35 in the works. Here's one at The Podium: http://www.thepodium.com/p-17116-fairbanks-f-35-mahoganyadirondack.aspx

My next guitar will be what I initially thought my first bto was going to be. Baritone gs all mahogany back sides and top with rosewood, koa, or maple binding n rosette and an armrest. That won't happen till at least next year. I am still waiting on my bto gc that's replacing my 416ce. The gs is just too big for my right arm without the armrest. So the gc is replacing my standard tuning.

Taylor BTO EIR/Sinker GC on the way!

I've put a down payment on a Kolaya, with woods to be determined later. Brad Daniels is going to be sending me an Amazon Rosewood Carmen (which he is building now) to test, and I'm also in line to try out his Tornillo Carmen. After I have a chance to play those I'll discuss with him what woods might be best.

I'm planning this one as a fingerstyle instrument. Should be nice!

And oh, the Amazon Rosewood guitar is tentatively scheduled to be here at the end of February. If any of the Sandy Eggo residents want to pop over to try it out, that would be great.

Probably gonna be a 12-fret Taylor, likely in GA size.
Was picking out BTO options but now (2012) Taylor is offering the 12-fret in cedar/mahogany in addition to the sitka/rw option available previously.
The line is only made in GC size (unless going BTO, then GA is available), so I'm hoping Jim at GR gets one of the cedar/mah GC 12-fretters in so I can give it a play/listen.

If I wasn't going to get a Taylor, well, then I'd look long and hard at the Seagull Artist Mosaic or the Peppino d'Agostino models.

What I want is that new Builder's Reserve Koa pair of the guitar and uke. I probably couldn't afford it, though. I don't suppose you will find those at a 40% markdown... ;D But I really, really like the all Koa with the edgeburst and the Florentine cutaway. That darn Guitar Galleria has been dangling them in front of me for a while on eBay and I really got a bad case of GAS.  ::)
