A good "Taylor guy"
« on: September 18, 2017, 09:01:25 PM »
I belong to other acoustic forums, as I'm sure many of you do.  I don't post tons, but I read a lot.

I'm familiar with who the big repair guys are on those forums, the "go-to" luthiers and shops.  Some of these specializing in one brand, or era.  And some, because of their expertise, are practically  inaccessible unless you are connected, or have a notable instrument.  It's just logistics.

But I've looked around here and I'm not picking up on the Taylor repair guys; or, the folks who do really good Taylor repairs if there are such.

I've gotten into Taylor guitars this summer.  I did purchase one with fair structural damage...thinking the cracks looked clean and repairable.  But in actuality it's a quite involved repair, but could be made right.

Who do Taylor players like for Taylor repairs?  Who are "the guys" (or "girls") that are noted, but accessible?  This would be structural and finish work (as opposed to setup, for example).  I know the repair landscape in my neck of the woods quite well, but interested in hearing other names.

I can ship.  Please feel free to message me to keep your opinion private if desired.  Thanks everybody!

Here's a link for the Taylor Authorized Service Centers https://www.taylorguitars.com/support/service-centers?order=title&sort=desc although I mostly hear Taylor owners sending their guitars back to El Cajon, CA for major work. Of course there are plenty of really good luthiers and techs who are not necessarily authorized by Taylor. It might help to know the location of your neck of the woods....

thanks for that info.

I am well-versed in all the local/regional repair options of my area.  I simply wanted to know if there were other luthiers who are more familiar or deal with Taylors on a more exclusive basis, that's all.

I may look into sending it back to El Cajon.  It needs to be re-backed, likely.

Hi Acme,
Pat Diburro in Exeter NH does phenomenal work and is/was the only Taylor platinum authorized service outside of El Cajon.
He works exclusively on Taylor, Martin and Collings and is factory authorized by those three. Does mostly restoration and repair of severe damage but will also do smaller jobs here and there.

Good luck,
Dave
